Lost Castle 2 is Hunter Studio's 2D beat 'em up roguelite, in Early Access from 24 July 2024 until its 1.0 release in June 2026. A single run pushes from the Black Forest through the Abandoned Village and Crystal Mountain to the Black Castle, pulling from more than 200 weapons and armor pieces and over 130 treasures. Up to four players share a run through online co-op, LAN, or shared and split screen.
Lost Castle 2 features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Build |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black Forest | Run stage 1 of 4 | First weapon drops, early Soul Stones, the gold that funds camp upgrades | Dual blade rusher |
| 2 | Abandoned Village | Run stage 2 of 4 | Mid-run treasures, boss relics for the collection, armor upgrades | Dual blade rusher |
| 3 | Crystal Mountain | Run stage 3 of 4 | Higher tier weapons, Soul Stones worth socketing, elemental gear | Sword and shield bruiser |
| 4 | Black Castle | Run stage 4 of 4 | Run completion, boss relics, the unlocks that feed the next run | Sword and shield bruiser |
| 5 | The camp | Between every run | Permanent stat upgrades, shop access, Memory Shard unlocks | Sword and shield bruiser |
Black Forest: Starting Area
The opening area and the one you will replay most. Three of the run's bosses sit here, so it is where you learn which weapon type you actually enjoy before committing gold at camp.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Run stage 1 of 4 |
| Key Rewards | First weapon drops, early Soul Stones, the gold that funds camp upgrades |
| Recommended Build | Dual blade rusher |
| Key Equipment | Katana |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Soul Inscription weapon builds. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Abandoned Village.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Abandoned Village: Early Game
The second area, built around a cemetery. Enemy density climbs sharply here, which is where treasure choices that ignore your damage type start to cost you the run.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Run stage 2 of 4 |
| Key Rewards | Mid-run treasures, boss relics for the collection, armor upgrades |
| Recommended Build | Dual blade rusher |
| Key Equipment | Katana |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Elemental damage on weapons. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Katana if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Crystal Mountain.
Crystal Mountain: Mid Game
The third area and the difficulty step most solo players stall on. Elemental damage matters more here than anywhere earlier, so a weapon with no element is a real handicap.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Run stage 3 of 4 |
| Key Rewards | Higher tier weapons, Soul Stones worth socketing, elemental gear |
| Recommended Build | Sword and shield bruiser |
| Key Equipment | Katana |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Dual blades becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Treasure stacking inside a run for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Black Castle: Late Game
The final area, reached past the Wandering Knight bridge fight that the Steam boards treat as the real gatekeeper. Both of its phases punish greedy attack strings.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Run stage 4 of 4 |
| Key Rewards | Run completion, boss relics, the unlocks that feed the next run |
| Recommended Build | Sword and shield bruiser |
| Key Equipment | Dual blades |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Dual blades should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Four-player co-op mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into The camp.
The camp: Endgame
The hub between runs, where banked gold becomes permanent upgrades and Memory Shards unlock extras such as the hidden Mage Tower. Recruitable helpers are posted on the bulletin board.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Between every run |
| Key Rewards | Permanent stat upgrades, shop access, Memory Shard unlocks |
| Recommended Build | Sword and shield bruiser |
| Key Equipment | Dual blades |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Musket shooter for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Black Forest → Abandoned Village → Crystal Mountain → Black Castle → The camp. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
