Game River released Mechabellum out of Early Access on 26 September 2024 with Dreamhaven publishing. It is an auto-battler played entirely between rounds: you spend supply on units, place them on a grid, buy tech upgrades and draft reinforcement cards, then watch the battle resolve without touching anything. Around 29 units exist, and almost every one of them is the answer to some other one, so reading your opponent's board matters more than any single strong unit.

Boss fights are where Mechabellum tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

1v1 Ranked Bosses

Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Full matches, typically eight to twelve rounds Recommended build: Anti-air with Fang

Strategy

The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. Each round you spend supply on new units and reposition existing ones, then the battle plays out on its own. This is your primary tool here.

Key tips:

  • Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
  • Use Round-based deployment on a grid to create safe windows.
  • Fang is enough to handle everything here.

2v2 Team Battle Bosses

Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Full matches with a partner Recommended build: Anti-air with Fang

Strategy

Early game bosses test your understanding of Unit tech upgrades. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.

Key tips:

  • Unit tech upgrades is critical for these fights.
  • Farm Fang upgrades if you're struggling.
  • Consider switching to Anti-air if your current setup isn't working.

Free For All Bosses

Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Multiplayer lobbies Recommended build: Chaff swarm with Crawler

Strategy

Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.

Key tips:

  • You need both Round-based deployment on a grid and Reinforcement card drafts mastery.
  • Crawler makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
  • See our combat guide for advanced techniques.

Solo Survival Bosses

Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Escalating waves in a single run Recommended build: Chaff swarm with Crawler

Strategy

Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.

Key tips:

  • Make sure your build is fully optimized.
  • Crawler at max upgrade is recommended.
  • Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.

Rift Mode Bosses

Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Rotating rule sets Recommended build: Chaff swarm with Crawler

Strategy

Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.

Key tips:

  • Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
  • Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
  • These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.

General Boss Tips

  1. Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
  2. Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
  3. Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Crawler trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
  4. Use Round-based deployment on a grid: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
  5. Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
