Game River released Mechabellum out of Early Access on 26 September 2024 with Dreamhaven publishing. It is an auto-battler played entirely between rounds: you spend supply on units, place them on a grid, buy tech upgrades and draft reinforcement cards, then watch the battle resolve without touching anything. Around 29 units exist, and almost every one of them is the answer to some other one, so reading your opponent's board matters more than any single strong unit.

Choosing the right build shapes your entire experience. This guide breaks down every option: what they're good at, what they struggle with, and which one matches your playstyle. For optimized builds with full gear sets, see our builds guide.

Which Build Should You Pick?

For Beginners

Anti-air is the clear winner. It's forgiving, teaches core mechanics, and remains competitive into endgame. Follow our beginner's guide for the best first-session experience.

For Maximum Performance

Chaff swarm is the top pick once you understand the game's mechanics. Pair it with Crawler for the strongest overall setup.

For a Challenge

Air offers the highest skill ceiling. It's punishing when misplayed but incredibly rewarding when mastered. Only recommended after you've completed the game with another build.

For Group Play

Giant shines in cooperative content with utility and team support capabilities.
