Asobo Studio released Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on 19 November 2024 as a separate product from the 2020 sim, built around a career mode rather than free flight alone. The Standard Edition ships more than 65 aircraft and the world engine draws on over 500 TIN cities, more than 100,000 square kilometres of countryside photogrammetry, roughly 1.5 billion buildings and close to 3 trillion trees. Career progression runs through more than 20 certifications, each opening specialisations from skydive drops up to heavy cargo.

Resource management and crafting determine how quickly your power scales. This guide covers what to prioritize, where to farm, and how to avoid wasting resources on the wrong upgrades.

Resource Farming by Area

Courchevel Altiport

Key resources: Slope landing practice, mountain wind handling, a benchmark for approach accuracy Farming efficiency: Low value per run, but safe and consistent

Focus on gathering materials for Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla

Key resources: High-altitude performance practice, one-way runway technique, bush and cargo contract scenery Farming efficiency: Good early-game farming spot

Focus on gathering materials for Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Innsbruck Airport

Key resources: Circling approach practice, mountain wave and turbulence handling, jet operations into tight terrain Farming efficiency: Best mid-game farming, worth revisiting

Focus on gathering materials for Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Paro International Airport

Key resources: Valley navigation, hand-flown visual arrivals, high terrain awareness practice Farming efficiency: High-value materials for late-game upgrades

This is where you farm materials for Cessna 172 Skyhawk max upgrades. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Gustaf III Airport, Saint Barthelemy

Key resources: Short-field technique, crosswind landings, charter contracts in island scenery Farming efficiency: Best resources in the game, requires strong build

This is where you farm materials for Cessna 172 Skyhawk max upgrades. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Upgrade Path

Early Game (Courchevel Altiport to Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla)

  1. Upgrade your starting equipment to functional level
  2. Craft basic defensive gear
  3. Save specialty materials, since you'll need them later
  4. Focus on Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX once accessible

Mid Game (Innsbruck Airport)

  1. Push Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX to mid-level upgrades
  2. Start collecting materials for Cessna 172 Skyhawk
  3. Craft situational consumables for boss fights
  4. Upgrade build-specific gear pieces

Late Game (Paro International Airport to Gustaf III Airport, Saint Barthelemy)

  1. Max out Cessna 172 Skyhawk. This is your top priority
  2. Complete your build's core gear set
  3. Craft endgame consumables
  4. Optional: upgrade secondary equipment for variety

Crafting Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Spreading upgrades across multiple equipment: Focus one weapon to max before diversifying.
  2. Hoarding materials: Use them. The game provides enough if you farm efficiently.
  3. Upgrading the wrong gear: Check our builds guide before investing.
  4. Ignoring Innsbruck Airport farming: This area has the best resource-to-time ratio in mid-game.
  5. Crafting consumables too early: Save specialty materials for late-game recipes.

Resource Efficiency Tips

  • Aim for touchdown under 200 feet per minute of vertical speed. That is the threshold for the landing bonus, and anything above 400 feet per minute counts as a hard landing with maintenance consequences.
  • Farm Innsbruck Airport during mid-game for the best return on time
  • Check the walkthrough to know when each resource becomes available
  • Match your farming route to your build. Some classes farm faster in certain areas
