Deca Live Operations runs this top down bullet hell MMO, and its one hard rule is that death deletes the character together with everything equipped on it. Exalt is the Unity client that replaced the original Flash build from Wild Shadow Studios, keeping the level 20 cap, the eight stats and the shared open world that funnels every player toward Oryx. Armour never saves you from a full bullet pattern, so dodging comes first and damage comes second.
Realm of the Mad God Exalt features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Build |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Undead Lair | Level 20 with roughly 4/8 stats | Doom Bow, stat potions, and a reliable source of dungeon keys | Archer |
| 2 | Tomb of the Ancients | Level 20 with roughly 6/8 stats | Untiered gear, large potion drops, and keys toward harder dungeons | Archer |
| 3 | The Shatters | Level 20 at 8/8 only | Exaltations, high end untiered drops, and endgame ability items | Wizard |
| 4 | Lost Halls | Level 20 at 8/8 only | Exaltations, Void Entity loot, and the strongest ability items in the game | Wizard |
| 5 | Oryx's Castle | Level 20 with 6/8 stats or better | Sword of Acclaim and other Oryx drops, plus fame from a completed realm | Wizard |
Undead Lair: Starting Area
A mid tier dungeon opened by ghost gods in the Godlands, ending with Septavius the Ghost God in a cramped final room. The corridors are tight enough that a bad dodge traps you against a wall.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Level 20 with roughly 4/8 stats |
| Key Rewards | Doom Bow, stat potions, and a reliable source of dungeon keys |
| Recommended Build | Archer |
| Key Equipment | Crystal Sword |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Permadeath with no item recovery. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Tomb of the Ancients.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Tomb of the Ancients: Early Game
Three separate bosses, Nut, Geb and Bes, sit in their own chambers and are usually pulled one at a time. Pulling two at once is the single most common way a maxed character dies in the middle game.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Level 20 with roughly 6/8 stats |
| Key Rewards | Untiered gear, large potion drops, and keys toward harder dungeons |
| Recommended Build | Archer |
| Key Equipment | Crystal Sword |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Eight stats and stat potions. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Crystal Sword if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in The Shatters.
The Shatters: Mid Game
A long scripted dungeon with the Bridge Sentinel, the Twilight Archmage and the Forgotten King in sequence, each with a phase that kills anyone who has not learned it. Runs are organised in advance rather than joined casually.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Level 20 at 8/8 only |
| Key Rewards | Exaltations, high end untiered drops, and endgame ability items |
| Recommended Build | Wizard |
| Key Equipment | Crystal Sword |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Doom Bow becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Dungeon keys and portal chains for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Lost Halls: Late Game
A branching endgame dungeon that leads onward to the Cultist Hideout and The Void rather than ending on its own. Group discipline matters more than raw damage because the later rooms punish anyone who drifts out of position.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Level 20 at 8/8 only |
| Key Rewards | Exaltations, Void Entity loot, and the strongest ability items in the game |
| Recommended Build | Wizard |
| Key Equipment | Doom Bow |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Doom Bow should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Soulbound damage and loot bags mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Oryx's Castle.
Oryx's Castle: Endgame
The end of a realm cycle, reached once enough gods have been killed to close the realm. It runs through the castle, the Wine Cellar and Oryx's Chamber, where the second form of Oryx punishes anyone standing still.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Level 20 with 6/8 stats or better |
| Key Rewards | Sword of Acclaim and other Oryx drops, plus fame from a completed realm |
| Recommended Build | Wizard |
| Key Equipment | Doom Bow |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Rogue for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Undead Lair → Tomb of the Ancients → The Shatters → Lost Halls → Oryx's Castle. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
