Deca Live Operations runs this top down bullet hell MMO, and its one hard rule is that death deletes the character together with everything equipped on it. Exalt is the Unity client that replaced the original Flash build from Wild Shadow Studios, keeping the level 20 cap, the eight stats and the shared open world that funnels every player toward Oryx. Armour never saves you from a full bullet pattern, so dodging comes first and damage comes second.

These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.

Essential Tips

1. Bind Nexus to a key you can hit without looking and use it early rather than heroically

Bind Nexus to a key you can hit without looking and use it early rather than heroically. A character that escapes at 40 percent health keeps every item, and the ten seconds you lose returning to the Nexus is cheaper than rebuilding a set from scratch.

2. Max Vitality and Wisdom before Attack

Max Vitality and Wisdom before Attack. Vitality regenerates health while you are out of combat, which is what lets you chain dungeons, and Wisdom drives every ability item in the game.

3. Keep a second set of decent gear in the vault instead of wearing everything at once

Keep a second set of decent gear in the vault instead of wearing everything at once. Losing a character hurts far less if the replacement can be equipped in thirty seconds.

4. Damage is soulbound, so you have to personally hurt a boss to be eligible for its bag

Damage is soulbound, so you have to personally hurt a boss to be eligible for its bag. Standing safe at the back for the whole fight means you survive the run and get nothing from it.

5. Learn to read the bullet colours rather than the boss animation

Learn to read the bullet colours rather than the boss animation. Most patterns in Tomb of the Ancients and The Shatters telegraph through projectile shape and speed, and the animations are deliberately misleading.

6. Do not open a dungeon key alone until you have cleared that dungeon with a group at least twice

Do not open a dungeon key alone until you have cleared that dungeon with a group at least twice. Keys cost real time or real money, and a solo wipe burns both the key and the character.

7. Exaltations only start counting once the character is 8/8, so a 7/8 clear of Lost Halls banks nothing toward the class

Exaltations only start counting once the character is 8/8, so a 7/8 clear of Lost Halls banks nothing toward the class. Finish the potion grind before you start the exalt grind.

8. Orbit rather than strafe

Orbit rather than strafe. Circling around a boss at a constant radius keeps you inside your own weapon range while forcing its aimed shots to lead you, which is far more reliable than dodging in straight lines.

9. Use the map key constantly in the Godlands

Use the map key constantly in the Godlands. Gods spawn in clusters, and the difference between farming three gods at once and being surrounded by nine is almost always a map you did not check.

10. Trade for stat potions rather than hunting them one at a time

Trade for stat potions rather than hunting them one at a time. Potion prices in the Nexus are stable enough that selling a spare untiered item usually buys a full stat from cap in one transaction.

Advanced Strategies

Build Optimization

The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.

For Wizard (A-Tier):

  • Focus on Permadeath with no item recovery combinations for maximum output.
  • Core gear: Doom Bow
  • Stat priority: Offensive stats first

For Archer (A-Tier):

  • Versatile approach that handles any situation.
  • Core gear: Crystal Sword
  • Stat priority: Balanced stats

Mechanic Interactions

Understanding how Realm of the Mad God Exalt's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.

Permadeath with no item recovery + Eight stats and stat potions: A dead character is gone along with every item in its inventory and equipment slots, and only what you parked in the vault survives. Combined with Eight stats and stat potions, life, mana, attack, defense, speed, dexterity, vitality and wisdom each have a per class cap, and potions raise them a point at a time.

Dungeon keys and portal chains + Exaltations for 8/8 characters: Gods in the Godlands drop portals to mid tier dungeons such as the Undead Lair and Tomb of the Ancients, and those dungeons in turn drop keys to harder ones like The Shatters. When paired with Exaltations for 8/8 characters, once a class reaches 8/8, clearing specific endgame dungeons banks exaltations toward one stat.

Soulbound damage and loot bags scaling: Loot bags only drop for players who dealt enough damage to the boss, so tagging it with one shot earns nothing. The rarest untiered items arrive in white bags, which is why organised groups care about damage output as much as survival.

Equipment Efficiency

EquipmentBest Use CaseWhy
Doom BowArcher and Huntress players stacking boss damage for white bag dropsAn untiered bow dropped by Septavius the Ghost God in the Undead Lair.
Crystal SwordMelee classes who need to trade with bosses that punish standing on top of themAn untiered sword from the Crystal Prisoner, prized because it reaches further than the tiered swords a melee class would otherwise carry.
Demon BladeKnights and Warriors bridging the gap between mid tier and endgame gearAn untiered sword dropped by Archdemon Malphas.
Ancient Stone SwordNewer melee characters who want a real weapon upgrade without an endgame keyAn untiered sword dropped by the Stone Guardians, one of the few white bag chases that shows up in the open world rather than behind a dungeon key.
Staff of the Cosmic WholeWizards and Necromancers who want steady damage without gambling on white bagsThe tier 12 staff, and the realistic damage ceiling for a Wizard or Necromancer who has not yet chased untiered drops.

Location Efficiency

Undead Lair (Level 20 with roughly 4/8 stats): A mid tier dungeon opened by ghost gods in the Godlands, ending with Septavius the Ghost God in a cramped final room. The corridors are tight enough that a bad dodge traps you against a wall.

Tomb of the Ancients (Level 20 with roughly 6/8 stats): Three separate bosses, Nut, Geb and Bes, sit in their own chambers and are usually pulled one at a time. Pulling two at once is the single most common way a maxed character dies in the middle game.

The Shatters (Level 20 at 8/8 only): A long scripted dungeon with the Bridge Sentinel, the Twilight Archmage and the Forgotten King in sequence, each with a phase that kills anyone who has not learned it. Runs are organised in advance rather than joined casually.

Lost Halls (Level 20 at 8/8 only): A branching endgame dungeon that leads onward to the Cultist Hideout and The Void rather than ending on its own. Group discipline matters more than raw damage because the later rooms punish anyone who drifts out of position.

Oryx's Castle (Level 20 with 6/8 stats or better): The end of a realm cycle, reached once enough gods have been killed to close the realm. It runs through the castle, the Wine Cellar and Oryx's Chamber, where the second form of Oryx punishes anyone standing still.

Mistakes Even Veterans Make

  1. Wearing every good item at once, so a single death wipes an entire account's progress instead of one set.
  2. Pulling two Tomb of the Ancients bosses together because the rooms look empty from the corridor.
  3. Chasing Attack and Dexterity first and dying at 20 Vitality with no health regeneration between fights.
  4. Joining a Shatters or Lost Halls run at 7/8 and contributing nothing while banking no exaltations.
  5. Standing still to fire a Doom Bow shot at a boss whose pattern is already tracking your position.

Pro Quick Tips

  • Bind Nexus to a key you can hit without looking and use it early rather than heroically. A character that escapes at 40 percent health keeps every item, and the ten seconds you lose returning to the Nexus is cheaper than rebuilding a set from scratch.
  • Max Vitality and Wisdom before Attack. Vitality regenerates health while you are out of combat, which is what lets you chain dungeons, and Wisdom drives every ability item in the game.
  • Keep a second set of decent gear in the vault instead of wearing everything at once. Losing a character hurts far less if the replacement can be equipped in thirty seconds.
  • Start with Archer, switch to Wizard when ready
  • Invest in Doom Bow above everything else
  • Clear areas in order: Undead Lair → Tomb of the Ancients → The Shatters → Lost Halls → Oryx's Castle. See our maps guide
  • Permadeath with no item recovery + Eight stats and stat potions together are stronger than either alone
