Rec Room Inc. put Rec Room on Steam on 1 June 2016 as a free social platform, and it now cross plays across PC, SteamVR, Meta Quest, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, iOS, Android and PICO headsets. The Rec Center is the hub, and its doors lead to first party games including Paintball, Laser Tag, Rec Royale, Dodgeball, Disc Golf, Soccer, Bowling and Paddleball. Everything beyond that is player built with the Maker Pen and Circuits V2, and creators who sell rooms and items can convert their earnings into real money.

Boss fights are where Rec Room tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Rec Center Bosses

Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Available from account creation Recommended build: Circuits engineer with Splat Sniper

Strategy

The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. The Maker Pen arrived in October 2017 and replaced the older 3D Pen, adding more shapes, a wider colour set and a Clone tool. This is your primary tool here.

Key tips:

  • Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
  • Use Maker Pen building to create safe windows.
  • Splat Sniper is enough to handle everything here.

Rec Royale Bosses

Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Open to all players, PvP Recommended build: Circuits engineer with Splat Sniper

Strategy

Early game bosses test your understanding of Circuits V2 visual scripting. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.

Key tips:

  • Circuits V2 visual scripting is critical for these fights.
  • Farm Splat Sniper upgrades if you're struggling.
  • Consider switching to Circuits engineer if your current setup isn't working.

Quest for the Golden Trophy Bosses

Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: 1 to 4 players, co-op Recommended build: Room creator with Splat Shotgun

Strategy

Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.

Key tips:

  • You need both Maker Pen building and Rec Room Studio and Unity mastery.
  • Splat Shotgun makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
  • See our combat guide for advanced techniques.

Isle of Lost Skulls Bosses

Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Up to 3 players, co-op Recommended build: Room creator with Splat Shotgun

Strategy

Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.

Key tips:

  • Make sure your build is fully optimized.
  • Splat Shotgun at max upgrade is recommended.
  • Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.

Curse of the Crimson Cauldron Bosses

Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Co-op, hardest official quest Recommended build: Room creator with Splat Shotgun

Strategy

Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.

Key tips:

  • Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
  • Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
  • These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.

General Boss Tips

  1. Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
  2. Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
  3. Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Splat Shotgun trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
  4. Use Maker Pen building: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
  5. Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
