Tier definitions: S = best in class, always a strong pick. A = strong and competitive, minor weaknesses. B = solid but clearly outperformed in most situations. C = viable only for players who enjoy the playstyle.

Equipment Analysis
Splat Shotgun: The close range paint weapon that appears in Paintball and in Rec Royale loot. It trades range for a wide spread that forgives imprecise aim, which is why screen players tend to score higher with it than with the Burst Rifle.
Splat Sniper: The long range paint option in Paintball and Rec Royale, rewarding steady aim and punishing anyone who commits to an open lane. In VR the physical shoulder mount makes a real difference to consistency.
Bow: A quest and Rec Royale weapon that requires a physical draw in VR and a charge on screen. Arrows arc, so it takes practice compared with the laser weapons, but it stays useful across the whole of Isle of Lost Skulls.
Sword and Shield: The signature quest pairing, giving you an active block alongside melee damage. It is the safest loadout for a player learning the enemy patterns in Quest for the Golden Trophy, which runs nine acts before its final boss.
Wand: The magic option in quests, projecting ranged damage without the arc management of the Bow. It is the most screen friendly quest weapon and pairs naturally with a melee player holding the front.
Meta Analysis
The current meta in Rec Room centers on Maker Pen building and Circuits V2 visual scripting. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one. Our combat guide explains these interactions in depth.
What's strong right now:
- Room creator with Splat Shotgun is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
- Rec Room Studio and Unity builds are gaining ground as players find new combinations.
- Rec Room Studio developer remains essential for learning hard content. See the boss guide.
What's underrated:
- Circuits engineer is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
- Bow offers excellent performance for its investment level.
What's overhyped:
- Pure PvP competitor builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
