Rec Room Inc. put Rec Room on Steam on 1 June 2016 as a free social platform, and it now cross plays across PC, SteamVR, Meta Quest, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, iOS, Android and PICO headsets. The Rec Center is the hub, and its doors lead to first party games including Paintball, Laser Tag, Rec Royale, Dodgeball, Disc Golf, Soccer, Bowling and Paddleball. Everything beyond that is player built with the Maker Pen and Circuits V2, and creators who sell rooms and items can convert their earnings into real money.

Rec Room features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

  • If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.

Rec Royale: Early Game

The battle royale original, where the full weapon list appears as ground loot rather than as a chosen loadout. Solo and squad variants both run, and it mixes the paint weapons with the laser weapons in the same pool.

  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Quest for the Golden Trophy.

Quest for the Golden Trophy: Mid Game

What to Do Here

  • Experiment with PvP competitor for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Rec Center → Rec Royale → Quest for the Golden Trophy → Isle of Lost Skulls → Curse of the Crimson Cauldron. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
