The Spell Brigade drops one to four wizards into a survivors-like arena where spells fire on their own and friendly fire stays switched on. Bolt Blaster Games shipped Early Access on 16 September 2024 and the 1.0 build on 29 April 2026, with seven elements and ten dual element pairings. Three finished realms plus a work in progress fourth carry every run.
These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.
Essential Tips
1. Lightning is rated the strongest element in the 1
Lightning is rated the strongest element in the 1.0 tier lists because it pierces a line of enemies and adds a Thunder strike on the first hit. If you are unsure what to infuse, take Lightning twice and let the doubled version carry.
2. Friendly fire applies to every spell in the game, so in four player games agree who holds the middle
Friendly fire applies to every spell in the game, so in four player games agree who holds the middle. Falling Stars and Solar Pulse builds are the ones most likely to delete a teammate by accident.
3. Enchantment gold refunds in full at any time with no penalty, so treat the Enchantment page as a free respec
Enchantment gold refunds in full at any time with no penalty, so treat the Enchantment page as a free respec. Rebuild it for the realm you are about to enter instead of leaving one loadout permanently in place.
4. Luck decides the rarity of your level up offers
Luck decides the rarity of your level up offers. Reginald starts with plus 2 Luck and a 10 percent better chance at health potions and magnets, which is why he is the standard beginner pick over flashier wizards.
5. When a teammate goes down, sprint to the Revive Core rather than kiting away from it
When a teammate goes down, sprint to the Revive Core rather than kiting away from it. The detonation also damages the pack around the core, so a fast pickup solves two problems at once.
6. Ludwig is unaffected by elemental effects entirely, which makes him the safest pick for The Pyrestorm Pit where burning ground punishes everybody else in the squad
Ludwig is unaffected by elemental effects entirely, which makes him the safest pick for The Pyrestorm Pit where burning ground punishes everybody else in the squad.
7. Dual pairings change behaviour, not just numbers
Dual pairings change behaviour, not just numbers. Acid plus Fire gives Brimstone splash explosions on corrosion procs, Dark plus Ice spreads freeze through corrupted enemies, and Dark plus Dark makes corruption spread exponentially.
8. Hatti's unlock quest wants 40,000 kills while at half health or less
Hatti's unlock quest wants 40,000 kills while at half health or less. Chip your own health down early in easy runs and let it accumulate passively rather than trying to force the whole total in one session.
9. Sun Mage gains 7 percent move speed while standing on roads and environmental hazards, so use paths deliberately when you are running objectives instead of cutting across open ground

10. Solo and four player runs scale differently because enemy counts rise with squad size
Solo and four player runs scale differently because enemy counts rise with squad size. A build that feels comfortable alone can become lethal to your own team once four wizards are firing into the same pack.
Advanced Strategies
Build Optimization
The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.
For Reginald (A-Tier):
- Focus on Friendly fire between wizards combinations for maximum output.
- Core gear: Magic Missile
- Stat priority: Offensive stats first
For Sun Mage (A-Tier):
- Versatile approach that handles any situation.
- Core gear: Astral Orbs
- Stat priority: Balanced stats
Mechanic Interactions
Understanding how The Spell Brigade's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.
Friendly fire between wizards + Elemental infusions on every spell: Every spell your squad casts hurts teammates as well as demons, so a fully augmented Falling Stars build can wipe your own party. Combined with Elemental infusions on every spell, each spell can carry lightning, fire, acid, wildfire, ice, dark or plasma.
Ten dual element pairings + Revive Cores for downed allies: Stacking two elements produces a named result: Acid plus Fire gives Brimstone splash explosions, Ice plus Fire gives Frostbite knockback, and doubling Dark gives Void corruption that spreads exponentially. When paired with Revive Cores for downed allies, a downed wizard leaves a revive core that a teammate detonates to bring them back, and the blast also damages the pack standing on it.
Gold funded Enchantments in the lobby scaling: Gold earned per match buys permanent Enchantments across five tiers, each strengthened up to five times, with a mastery bonus once a line finishes level 5. Every coin can be refunded at any time with no penalty.
Equipment Efficiency
| Equipment | Best Use Case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Magic Missile | New players learning which element to infuse first | The plain starter projectile that tracks the nearest target and scales cleanly with cooldown reduction. |
| Astral Orbs | Close range defence and body blocking in co-op | Reginald's signature spell, orbs that circle the caster with plus 25 percent spell size and 12 percent lower cooldown. |
| Falling Stars | Clearing dense packs in solo runs | Star Mage's opener, dropping stars across a wide zone with a 12 percent cooldown bonus attached. |
| Arcane Broadsword | Frontline wizards holding a choke point | Ludwig's melee arc, 25 percent larger and 8 percent faster to recharge than the baseline. |
| Solar Pulse | Clearing crowds around a wizard who never stops moving | Sun Mage's expanding burst, carrying a 33 percent spell size bonus straight out of the gate. |
Location Efficiency
The Verdant Meadows (First realm, any wizard): The starting realm, open green fields with the lightest enemy density in the game and the cleanest sightlines for learning friendly fire spacing.
The Frozen Ancients (Second realm): Ice terrain with tighter lanes than the meadows, where a knockback pairing such as Frostbite pays for itself.
The Pyrestorm Pit (Third realm): Volcanic arena with burning ground and heavier elite pressure, which is exactly where Ludwig's elemental immunity earns its keep.
The Astral Riftlands (Newest content): The fourth realm, still flagged work in progress on the official wiki, built on astral terrain and expanding patch by patch.
The lobby (Between every run): The out of run hub where you pick a wizard, spend gold on Enchantments and check bounties before queuing.
Mistakes Even Veterans Make
- Standing shoulder to shoulder with teammates, which turns a stacked area build into a party wipe faster than the demons manage it.
- Hoarding gold instead of buying Enchantments, when refunds are free and unlimited so there is nothing to save for.
- Ignoring Luck and then wondering why every level up offers common upgrades.
- Chasing seven different elements instead of doubling one, which skips the named pairings like Thunder and Void entirely.
- Leaving a downed teammate's Revive Core untouched until the wave clears. The core is a resource, not a penalty.
Pro Quick Tips
- Lightning is rated the strongest element in the 1.0 tier lists because it pierces a line of enemies and adds a Thunder strike on the first hit. If you are unsure what to infuse, take Lightning twice and let the doubled version carry.
- Friendly fire applies to every spell in the game, so in four player games agree who holds the middle. Falling Stars and Solar Pulse builds are the ones most likely to delete a teammate by accident.
- Enchantment gold refunds in full at any time with no penalty, so treat the Enchantment page as a free respec. Rebuild it for the realm you are about to enter instead of leaving one loadout permanently in place.
- Start with Sun Mage, switch to Reginald when ready
- Invest in Magic Missile above everything else
- Clear areas in order: The Verdant Meadows → The Frozen Ancients → The Pyrestorm Pit → The Astral Riftlands → The lobby. See our maps guide
- Friendly fire between wizards + Elemental infusions on every spell together are stronger than either alone
