Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos is NANOO's hand drawn survivors-like with Diablo style loot attached. It spent a year in Early Access from 19 May 2025 before the 1.0 build arrived on 26 May 2026 with five heroes. Every run climbs a numbered floor of the tower, and everything you pick up drops into a stash rather than onto your character.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (Floor 1)

The opening floor, used to learn the auto attack loop and stock the first stash before anything gets dangerous.

Level/Difficulty: Item level 1 to 3 on Normal Key Rewards: Starting gear and the first gold for camp upgrades

What to Do in Floor 1

  1. Learn Auto attacking wave survival. Your character attacks on its own while you handle movement and dodging. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick Wizard as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Read the floor header before you drop in. It lists difficulty, item level range, timer and reward modifiers, which tells you straight away whether this is a progression push or a farming trip.
  4. Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Ice Orb or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand Auto attacking wave survival fundamentals
  • Wizard selected and functional
  • Floor 1 main content cleared
  • Ready for Floor 3

Phase 2: Early Game (Floor 3)

Where the difficulty curve first bites and your level up picks start mattering more than raw stat totals.

Level/Difficulty: Mid item levels on Normal Key Rewards: Better rarity rolls and your first meaningful runes

What to Do in Floor 3

  1. Work on Three upgrade picks per level. Each level up offers three random choices from new skills, stat boosts and buffs to skills you already run. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Ice Orb if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. You cannot equip loot mid run, since everything goes to the stash. A run that ends in death still pays out as long as you were picking things up on the way.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to Floor 6: Hellblossom.
  5. Consider whether Warrior might suit your playstyle better than Wizard.

Phase 2 Checklist

  • Three upgrade picks per level integrated into gameplay
  • Ice Orb acquired
  • Floor 3 fully cleared
  • Ready for Floor 6: Hellblossom

Phase 3: Mid Game (Floor 6: Hellblossom)

The floor that gates the Demon Hunter unlock, and the point where most players stall on their first serious push.

Level/Difficulty: Upper Normal item levels Key Rewards: Demon Hunter class unlock

What to Do in Floor 6: Hellblossom

  1. Master Loot banks to the stash. Gear cannot be equipped during a run. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Chain Lightning. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
  3. There is no reroll on level up. Take the three offers at face value and favour base attack damage, critical chance, attack speed and move speed early, because those work with any skill that shows up later.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in Runes, gems and sockets for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • Loot banks to the stash mastered
  • Chain Lightning acquired or in progress
  • Floor 6: Hellblossom fully cleared
  • Ready for Earlier floors on Hard

Phase 4: Late Game (Earlier floors on Hard)

Re-running cleared floors on Hard raises the item level band without the enemy density of an entirely new floor.

Level/Difficulty: Hard difficulty item bands Key Rewards: Purple and orange rarity drops

What to Do in Earlier floors on Hard

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running Warrior or Wizard with optimized gear.
  2. Chain Lightning should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. Chill from Ice Orb and Frost Nova cuts enemy movement and attack speed. On floors where you keep getting surrounded, a cold skill saves more runs than a damage skill.
  4. Floor gated item levels optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into The camp.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Chain Lightning upgraded to max
  • Earlier floors on Hard fully cleared
  • Ready for The camp

Phase 5: Endgame (The camp)

The hub between runs, where gold buys permanent stat upgrades and the stash gets sorted before the next attempt.

Level/Difficulty: Between every run Key Rewards: Permanent Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence that stack across all runs

What to Do in The camp

  1. The camp tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Skull Crusher's Berserk needs 35 successive kills and lasts 15 seconds for 15 percent more attack speed, attack range and cast speed. Route through trash constantly instead of chasing elites, because a break in the streak drops the buff.
  3. The endgame loop: run The camp, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with Skull Crusher for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where Floor gated item levels mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • The camp fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Farming Floor 1 for hours. The Normal item level band there is capped at 1 to 3, so the time stops paying almost immediately.
  • Ignoring basic attack stats in favour of flashy skills. Basic attacks are the consistent damage floor every build stands on.
  • Skipping camp upgrades to save gold, when permanent Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence carry across every class you will ever play.
  • Standing still to cast. The game auto attacks precisely so you can keep moving, and most deaths are positioning rather than a damage shortfall.
  • Treating a failed run as wasted time. Loot banks to the stash no matter how the run ends.

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Read the floor header before you drop in. It lists difficulty, item level range, timer and reward modifiers, which tells you straight away whether this is a progression push or a farming trip.
  2. You cannot equip loot mid run, since everything goes to the stash. A run that ends in death still pays out as long as you were picking things up on the way.
  3. There is no reroll on level up. Take the three offers at face value and favour base attack damage, critical chance, attack speed and move speed early, because those work with any skill that shows up later.
  4. Chill from Ice Orb and Frost Nova cuts enemy movement and attack speed. On floors where you keep getting surrounded, a cold skill saves more runs than a damage skill.
  5. Skull Crusher's Berserk needs 35 successive kills and lasts 15 seconds for 15 percent more attack speed, attack range and cast speed. Route through trash constantly instead of chasing elites, because a break in the streak drops the buff.
