Your Chronicle is a free text based idle RPG by Samurai Games, released on Steam on 4 April 2021 and also playable in a browser. You start in a village with a father telling you to be strong and save your mother, and you progress by spending Action points on button driven tasks like picking weeds and chopping wood. More than 3,000 story actions sit behind it, across 19 documented areas that run from the starting Village to the Akashic Record.

Combat in Your Chronicle rewards knowledge over reflexes. Understanding how each mechanic works (and how they interact) is what turns a struggling player into a dominant one. New here? Start with our beginner's guide for the basics.

Core Combat Mechanics

1. Action and Stamina costs

Almost every task spends Action, and looped tasks spend Stamina on top. Picking Weeds in the Village costs 0.40 Action for 0.505 Gold and one Weed, while Chopping Wood in the Forest costs 0.8 Action and 0.5 Stamina per log, so regeneration rate is the real bottleneck.

Why it matters: This is the foundation of all combat. Everything else builds on this.

2. Habit points and Routines

Routines are passive actions funded by Habit points, and Habit can be refunded and reallocated at any time for free. The Routine menu splits into Sacred Ritual, Energy, Familiar, Will, Warrior and Gluttony tabs, with Worship acting as a morning routine that improves Sacred Ritual effects.

Why it matters: The most underrated mechanic. Players who master this early have a massive advantage.

3. Sacred Ritual ranking

Sacred Ritual converts accumulated Exp into Rank. Each Rank adds one to your Habit cap and grants Inspiration, with higher Ranks granting more, and the scaling is logarithmic against an adjustable base.

Why it matters: Unlocks a new layer of gameplay depth once understood.

4. Dark Ritual prestige

Dark Ritual is the prestige reset. It wipes Rank and basic Routine levels except Energy, and converts banked Next Talent into Current Talent, which permanently multiplies Sacred Ritual Exp gains.

Why it matters: The tactical edge that separates average players from advanced ones.

5. A party of ten allies

You field up to ten allies. The first five fight using their stats, skills and passives while the last five contribute passives only. Allies come from research dropped by defeated enemies, and once an ally maxes out, spare research raises their Luck stat, which lifts research drops for the whole party.

Why it matters: The endgame optimization mechanic. Small improvements here compound into massive gains.

How These Mechanics Combine

Understanding how mechanics interact is where real optimization happens:

Action and Stamina costs + Habit points and Routines

Almost every task spends Action, and looped tasks spend Stamina on top. When combined with Habit points and Routines, routines are passive actions funded by habit points, and habit can be refunded and reallocated at any time for free. This combination is the core of every effective build.

Sacred Ritual ranking + Dark Ritual prestige

Sacred Ritual converts accumulated Exp into Rank. Paired with Dark Ritual prestige, dark ritual is the prestige reset. This is why the tier list favors builds that leverage both.

A party of ten allies as a Multiplier

You field up to ten allies. The first five fight using their stats, skills and passives while the last five contribute passives only. Allies come from research dropped by defeated enemies, and once an ally maxes out, spare research raises their Luck stat, which lifts research drops for the whole party. This system amplifies everything else. The better your A party of ten allies optimization, the more your other mechanics pay off.

Advanced Combat Techniques

Damage Optimization

  1. Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities
  2. Exploit Action and Stamina costs for maximum damage windows
  3. Chain Habit points and Routines and Sacred Ritual ranking for combo damage
  4. Use Dark Ritual prestige to create openings

Survivability

  1. Learn enemy patterns before committing to attacks
  2. Habit points can be refunded and reallocated at no cost, so treat every Routine allocation as an experiment rather than a permanent commitment.
  3. Position using Action and Stamina costs to control spacing
  4. Save defensive options for guaranteed survival, not comfort

Boss Combat

Bosses test your understanding of every mechanic. See our boss guide for fight-specific strategies.

  • Phase awareness: Most bosses change behavior at health thresholds
  • Patience over aggression: One extra hit per opening beats dying to greed
  • Build preparation: Swap gear and equipment for specific fights when needed

Common Combat Mistakes

  1. Button mashing: Committed attacks have recovery frames. Mashing locks you into animations.
  2. Ignoring Habit points and Routines: This mechanic exists for a reason. Players who use it take significantly less damage.
  3. Wrong equipment for the situation: Check our weapons guide for situational picks.
  4. Not learning from deaths: Every death teaches something. If you don't know why you died, you'll die the same way again.
  5. Overcommitting: Trading hits works in Village but will get you killed in Akashic Record.
