Your Chronicle is a free text based idle RPG by Samurai Games, released on Steam on 4 April 2021 and also playable in a browser. You start in a village with a father telling you to be strong and save your mother, and you progress by spending Action points on button driven tasks like picking weeds and chopping wood. More than 3,000 story actions sit behind it, across 19 documented areas that run from the starting Village to the Akashic Record.
Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Sword | S | The first few hours, before mana crystals are plentiful enough for anything better. | The first equippable weapon, adding roughly 10 percent physical attack. |
| Steel Sword | A | Mid game, once mana crystal income is steady. Players generally advise holding off before that. | A physical attack percent weapon that gains magic attack percent and Destiny regeneration as you feed it mana crystals, and picks up guard break at higher levels. |
| Leather Shield | A | Early dungeon floors where an ally dying costs you the whole run. | The starter defensive piece, adding defence rather than offence. |
| Item Pouch | B | Offline heavy play and Gluttony builds chasing capacity milestones. | Increases resource capacity instead of combat stats. |
| Spirit Orb | B | Players who want Habit points back for Energy or Gluttony instead. | Adds an extra damage effect and, more usefully, removes the need to sink Habit into elemental MP routines. |

Equipment Progression Path
The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear Village
- Steel Sword → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Leather Shield → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Wooden Sword → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Equipment Tips
- Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Habit points can be refunded and reallocated at no cost, so treat every Routine allocation as an experiment rather than a permanent commitment.
- Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
