PlayWithFurcifer put Backpack Battles into Early Access on 8 March 2024 and shipped version 1.0 on 13 June 2025, with IndieArk publishing. You buy items in a shop phase, arrange them inside a grid backpack where placement decides what triggers, and the fight then resolves on its own against another player's saved backpack. Seven classes each carry five subclasses, and more than 500 items exist across six rarities from Common up to Unique.

Choosing the right build shapes your entire experience. This guide breaks down every option: what they're good at, what they struggle with, and which one matches your playstyle. For optimized builds with full gear sets, see our builds guide.

For Beginners

Reaper is the clear winner. It's forgiving, teaches core mechanics, and remains competitive into endgame. Follow our beginner's guide for the best first-session experience.

For Maximum Performance

Ranger is the top pick once you understand the game's mechanics. Pair it with Falcon Blade for the strongest overall setup.

For a Challenge

Engineer offers the highest skill ceiling. It's punishing when misplayed but incredibly rewarding when mastered. Only recommended after you've completed the game with another build.

For Group Play

Pyromancer shines in cooperative content with utility and team support capabilities.
