Battlefield V arrived in November 2018 with eight maps, among them Narvik, Rotterdam and Fjell 652, and DICE closed content development in June 2020 after six Tides of War chapters. It is the only Battlefield where every soldier carries a hammer and can raise sandbags, tank traps and repaired walls at marked build points. Ammunition is deliberately thin under the attrition system, so a squad without a Support runs dry long before it runs out of targets.
Battlefield V features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Narvik | Conquest 64 players | Town flag control, cable car high ground, ore facility choke | Medic |
| 2 | Rotterdam | Conquest and Breakthrough | Bridge crossing, canal side building interiors, central plaza | Medic |
| 3 | Twisted Steel | Conquest 64 players | Bridge deck sightlines, marsh flank, farmhouse cover | Assault |
| 4 | Operation Underground | Conquest and Breakthrough | Platform choke points, ticket hall flanks, surface street objective | Assault |
| 5 | Iwo Jima | Conquest and Breakthrough | Beach landing zone, bunker network, Suribachi high ground | Assault |
Narvik: Starting Area
Snowbound Norwegian ore town from the launch lineup, split between a wooded ridge, a cable car line and a dense town centre. The snow hides prone bodies far better than most players expect.

|---|---|
| Difficulty | Conquest 64 players |
| Key Rewards | Town flag control, cable car high ground, ore facility choke |
| Recommended Role | Medic |

What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Fortification building. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first weapons upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Rotterdam.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Rotterdam: Early Game
A Dutch city map built around a canal and a raised bridge, with shop interiors on both banks. Most fights are decided inside buildings rather than on the streets between them.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Conquest and Breakthrough |
| Key Rewards | Bridge crossing, canal side building interiors, central plaza |
| Recommended Role | Medic |
| Key Weapons | MP40 |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Attrition ammo economy. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for MP40 if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Twisted Steel.
Twisted Steel: Mid Game
French farmland dominated by a huge damaged steel bridge that runs the length of the map. The bridge deck is a killing field and the marshy ground under it is the safer route.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Conquest 64 players |
| Key Rewards | Bridge deck sightlines, marsh flank, farmhouse cover |
| Recommended Role | Assault |
| Key Weapons | MP40 |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- StG 44 becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Squad reinforcements for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Operation Underground: Late Game
Released in November 2019 as a rebuilt Operation Metro, with a bombed street above and subway platforms below. The longest sightline in the map is a train platform, which punishes bolt actions.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Conquest and Breakthrough |
| Key Rewards | Platform choke points, ticket hall flanks, surface street objective |
| Recommended Role | Assault |
| Key Weapons | StG 44 |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- StG 44 should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Weapon specialization trees mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Iwo Jima.
Iwo Jima: Endgame
Pacific map added in February 2020, running from a black sand beach landing up to Mount Suribachi. Attackers cross open sand under fire, defenders fight from tunnels and bunker mouths.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Conquest and Breakthrough |
| Key Rewards | Beach landing zone, bunker network, Suribachi high ground |
| Recommended Role | Assault |
| Key Weapons | StG 44 |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Tanker for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Narvik → Rotterdam → Twisted Steel → Operation Underground → Iwo Jima. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your weapons: Some areas favor different weapons types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
