Beasts of Bermuda is a multiplayer creature survival game from Sastrei Studios, in Steam Early Access since 21 December 2018. You pick a prehistoric animal, spawn onto a shared server with dozens of other players, and try to grow from a hatchling into an adult without starving, overheating, panicking or being eaten. The three play modes split the audience: Free Roam grows you slowly with forgiving resources, Life Cycle speeds growth but tightens survival and tracks monthly leaderboards, and Combat drops you in as an adult on a small map for straight fighting. What separates it from the other dinosaur survival games is the talent system, which spends points you earn as you grow across Power, Speed and Survival branches, so two Tyrannosaurus players can end up with completely different animals. Weather, tides and hurricanes are simulated rather than cosmetic, and stress from bad weather or the wrong neighbours will drain you faster than any predator.
Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bite and bleed | S | Acrocanthosaurus and other pursuit carnivores that expect long fights | The standard carnivore attack, with Power branch talents adding bleed that keeps draining after the bite lands. |
| Pounce and latch | A | Coordinated packs of small carnivores hunting oversized prey | Small agile carnivores can leap onto a larger animal and stay attached, chewing while the target tries to shake them off. |
| Grab and thrash | A | Aquatic predators controlling deep water and semi aquatic ambushes | Grabbing locks a target in your jaws and thrashing does heavy damage while it cannot retaliate. |
| Trample and knockback | B | Apatosaurus and other large bodied herbivores defending a herd | Heavy creatures push and knock lighter ones off their feet, which interrupts attacks and opens escape lanes. |
| Scent tracking | B | Any carnivore on Ancestral Plains or Titania where sightlines are poor | Scent lets you follow a trail left by another creature and read how fresh it is. |
S-Tier: Bite and bleed
The standard carnivore attack, with Power branch talents adding bleed that keeps draining after the bite lands. Bleed is the reason a smaller carnivore can beat a larger one given enough space to disengage.

| Tier | S |
| Best For | Acrocanthosaurus and other pursuit carnivores that expect long fights |
| Key Mechanic | Growth from hatchling to adult |
| Recommended Build | Tyrannosaurus rex |
How to get it: Available from mid-game onward. See our walkthrough for the exact progression point.
Best builds using Bite and bleed: Pairs naturally with Tyrannosaurus rex thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
A-Tier: Pounce and latch
Small agile carnivores can leap onto a larger animal and stay attached, chewing while the target tries to shake them off. It is the only way a pack of light creatures reliably threatens a fully grown giant.

|---|---|
| Tier | A |
| Best For | Coordinated packs of small carnivores hunting oversized prey |
| Key Mechanic | Power, Speed and Survival talent branches |
| Recommended Build | Acrocanthosaurus |

Best builds using Pounce and latch: Pairs naturally with Acrocanthosaurus thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
A-Tier: Grab and thrash
Grabbing locks a target in your jaws and thrashing does heavy damage while it cannot retaliate. Mosasaurus pairs it with the Asphyxiation talent so a held land animal simply runs out of air.

| Key Mechanic | Comfort and stress |
| Recommended Build | Apatosaurus |

Best builds using Grab and thrash: Pairs naturally with Apatosaurus thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
B-Tier: Trample and knockback
Heavy creatures push and knock lighter ones off their feet, which interrupts attacks and opens escape lanes. It scales with body mass, so it is a growth reward rather than a talent purchase.

|---|---|
| Tier | B |
| Best For | Apatosaurus and other large bodied herbivores defending a herd |
| Key Mechanic | Nesting and inherited marks |
| Recommended Build | Parasaurolophus |

B-Tier: Scent tracking
Scent lets you follow a trail left by another creature and read how fresh it is. Without it you are wandering a large map hoping to bump into something, which on a low population server means starving.

| Tier | B |
| Best For | Any carnivore on Ancestral Plains or Titania where sightlines are poor |
| Key Mechanic | Weather, tides and natural disasters |
| Recommended Build | Mosasaurus |

Equipment Progression Path
The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear Ancestral Plains
- Pounce and latch → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Grab and thrash → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Bite and bleed → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Equipment Tips
- Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Spawning from the creature select screen puts you at 0.4 growth with 10 talent points. Hatching from an egg puts you at 0.1 with none. If you have ninety minutes rather than a weekend, spawn in.
- Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
