Clicker Heroes is Playsaurus' idle game where you click a monster, hire heroes to do the clicking for you, and then wipe everything the moment resetting is faster than continuing. Progress is measured in zones, with a boss every fifth zone on a 30 second kill timer. The real game sits behind two reset buttons: Ancients bought with Hero Souls, and Outsiders bought with Ancient Souls.
These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.
Essential Tips
1. Keep Siyalatas and Libertas within one level of each other
Keep Siyalatas and Libertas within one level of each other. The idle pair is designed to be levelled together and pushing one far ahead wastes souls that would return more on the other.
2. Level Atman before pushing deeper zones
Level Atman before pushing deeper zones. Primal chance starts at 25 percent, and every point toward 100 percent multiplies the souls a whole run produces rather than adding a flat amount.
3. Ascend when your progress per hour visibly stalls, not on a fixed zone
Ascend when your progress per hour visibly stalls, not on a fixed zone. A run that has slowed to one zone every ten minutes is already paying less than a fresh run with the souls you have banked.
4. Move every gild onto whichever hero currently deals the most damage
Move every gild onto whichever hero currently deals the most damage. Gilds are stuck on random heroes when earned, and consolidating them is free damage that costs only clicks in the menu.
5. Buy Chor'gorloth first after your first transcendence
Buy Chor'gorloth first after your first transcendence. Cheaper Ancients compound into every other purchase, which makes it worth more than a direct damage Outsider at low Ancient Soul totals.
6. Do not level skill duration Ancients such as Chawedo, Berserker, Sniperino, Energon, Kleptos and Hecatoncheir on an idle build
Do not level skill duration Ancients such as Chawedo, Berserker, Sniperino, Energon, Kleptos and Hecatoncheir on an idle build. They only extend skills you are not using.
7. Use Kumawakamaru once zone clears feel slow
Use Kumawakamaru once zone clears feel slow. The default is ten monsters per non boss zone, and cutting that number speeds up every zone between bosses rather than just the boss itself.
8. Chronos is the answer to bosses timing out, not more damage
Chronos is the answer to bosses timing out, not more damage. If you are killing bosses with a second to spare, extra seconds on the 30 second timer are cheaper than the damage needed to beat it outright.
9. Solomon raises the souls each primal boss pays out, so it scales with how deep you push rather than how fast you clear
Solomon raises the souls each primal boss pays out, so it scales with how deep you push rather than how fast you clear. It is worth more on long runs than on quick ascension cycles.
10. Auto clickers bought with rubies can be left unassigned to feed Nogardnit for idle damage instead of assigned to click
Auto clickers bought with rubies can be left unassigned to feed Nogardnit for idle damage instead of assigned to click. On an idle build the unassigned option is usually the stronger one.
Advanced Strategies
Build Optimization
The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.
For Idle build (A-Tier):
- Focus on Zones and boss timers combinations for maximum output.
- Core gear: Siyalatas, Ancient of Abandon
- Stat priority: Offensive stats first
For Active click build (A-Tier):
- Versatile approach that handles any situation.
- Core gear: Libertas, Ancient of Freedom
- Stat priority: Balanced stats
Mechanic Interactions
Understanding how Clicker Heroes's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.
Zones and boss timers + Ascension and Hero Souls: Ten monsters clear a normal zone and every fifth zone is a boss with a 30 second kill window. Combined with Ascension and Hero Souls, ascending wipes gold, heroes and levels and pays out hero souls, each worth a permanent 10 percent dps increase.
Ancients + Transcendence and Outsiders: Hero Souls summon and level Ancients such as Siyalatas, Ancient of Abandon for idle damage and Fragsworth, Ancient of Wrath for click damage. When paired with Transcendence and Outsiders, transcendence is the second reset.
Gilds scaling: Gilds land on a random hero from zone 100 onward and multiply that hero's damage, with Argaiv, Ancient of Enhancement, raising what each gild is worth. Moving every gild onto your current best hero is the cheapest large damage gain available.
Equipment Efficiency
| Equipment | Best Use Case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Siyalatas, Ancient of Abandon | Any idle build, summoned as early as possible | Adds idle damage per level as long as you are not clicking, which makes it the single most valuable Ancient for hands off play. |
| Libertas, Ancient of Freedom | Idle gold income alongside Siyalatas | The gold half of the idle pair, raising gold earned while idle so hero levels keep climbing without input. |
| Fragsworth, Ancient of Wrath | Active clicking builds and boss burst windows | Adds 20 percent base click damage per level, making it the foundation of every active build. |
| Mammon, Ancient of Greed | Every build, once the core damage Ancients are running | A flat 5 percent gold increase per level that applies whether you are idle or active. |
| Atman, Ancient of Souls | Anyone planning to ascend, which is everyone | Raises the chance that a boss past zone 100 is primal, from the 25 percent base toward 100 percent. |
Location Efficiency
Zone 100 (Zones 1 to 100, first run): The first Centurion boss, Omeet, sits here and always drops exactly one Hero Soul regardless of your bonuses. Primal bosses begin appearing past this point, which is when ascension income actually starts.
Zone 140 (Zones 100 to 140): Boss health growth changes here. Up to zone 140 each boss needs roughly ten times the damage of the previous one, and after it roughly double, so the wall you hit around 140 is the last brutal one of the run.
Zone 200 (Zones 140 to 200): The second Centurion boss and the point where Atman should already be levelled enough that most bosses roll primal. Ascending here on a first run banks far more souls than stalling at 140.
Zone 500 (Zones 200 to 500): The fifth Centurion boss, reachable once your Ancient board is properly funded rather than improvised. Kumawakamaru matters more here because ten monsters per zone becomes the real time cost.
Zone 1000 (Zones 500 to 1000 and beyond): The tenth Centurion boss and a common marker for a first transcendence rather than another ascension. Past here Ancient Souls and Outsiders drive progress more than any single Ancient level.
Mistakes Even Veterans Make
- Ascending far too late and losing hours to a run that has already stalled.
- Splitting Hero Souls between idle and active Ancients so neither set performs.
- Ignoring Atman and then wondering why ascensions pay so few souls.
- Levelling skill duration Ancients while playing fully idle.
- Transcending before banking enough Hero Souls to make the Ancient Soul conversion worthwhile.
Pro Quick Tips
- Keep Siyalatas and Libertas within one level of each other. The idle pair is designed to be levelled together and pushing one far ahead wastes souls that would return more on the other.
- Level Atman before pushing deeper zones. Primal chance starts at 25 percent, and every point toward 100 percent multiplies the souls a whole run produces rather than adding a flat amount.
- Ascend when your progress per hour visibly stalls, not on a fixed zone. A run that has slowed to one zone every ten minutes is already paying less than a fresh run with the souls you have banked.
- Start with Active click build, switch to Idle build when ready
- Invest in Siyalatas, Ancient of Abandon above everything else
- Clear areas in order: Zone 100 → Zone 140 → Zone 200 → Zone 500 → Zone 1000. See our maps guide
- Zones and boss timers + Ascension and Hero Souls together are stronger than either alone
