Relic and Sega moved the series to the Mediterranean on 23 February 2023 with four armies: US Forces, British Forces, Wehrmacht and the Deutsches Afrikakorps. Single player splits two ways, a turn based Italian dynamic campaign map running from Palermo to Rome and an eight mission North African operation briefed by Rommel. Full Tactical Pause freezes any campaign mission or skirmish against the AI so you can issue orders with the clock stopped.
Boss fights are where Company of Heroes 3 tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Sicily Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Campaign turns 1 to 20 Recommended build: British Forces with MG 42 Machine Gun Team
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. The Italy campaign is a turn based layer running from Palermo to Rome where you move companies, capture ports and airfields to extend supply, and drop into real time battles when a stack meets resistance. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Italian dynamic campaign map to create safe windows.
- MG 42 Machine Gun Team is enough to handle everything here.
Salerno Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Campaign turns 20 to 45 Recommended build: British Forces with MG 42 Machine Gun Team
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Full Tactical Pause. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Full Tactical Pause is critical for these fights.
- Farm MG 42 Machine Gun Team upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to British Forces if your current setup isn't working.
Monte Cassino Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Campaign turns 45 to 75 Recommended build: US Forces with Riflemen Squad
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Italian dynamic campaign map and Breach on garrisoned buildings mastery.
- Riflemen Squad makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
Rome Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Campaign turns 75 and later Recommended build: US Forces with Riflemen Squad
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- Riflemen Squad at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
North Africa Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Missions 1 to 8 Recommended build: US Forces with Riflemen Squad
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Riflemen Squad trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Italian dynamic campaign map: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
