Targem Games and Gaijin launched Crossout as a free-to-play title on 26 July 2017, and it is still on a seasonal schedule nine years later, with the Dark Awakening season running from 4 June to 2 September 2026 and adding the Eclipse faction. You bolt a vehicle together part by part from a cabin, movement parts, weapons and modules, then take it into 8v8 missions, raids and clan battles where every component you attached can be shot off individually. Parts run through seven rarity steps from Starter up to Relic, and relics need uranium plus Engineers reputation 20 to craft.

Crossout features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Founders Canyon: Starting Area

A wide canyon map with a long central approach and rock cover along the edges. Sightlines favour Scorpions and cannon builds, and the open middle punishes anyone who tries to walk a slow brawler straight across it.

What to Do Here

Rock City: Early Game

Tight urban ruins with broken walls and short corners, which is where shotgun brawlers and melee builds do their best work. Artillery struggles here because there is rarely a clean arc onto a target that stays still.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Modular damage and part loss. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for AC72 Whirlwind if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Ashen Ring.

Ashen Ring: Mid Game

A burned-out circular arena with cover scattered around a central open ring. Fights collapse into the middle quickly, so builds that can rotate and re-engage beat builds that pick one firing position.

Raids: Late Game

Cooperative missions against computer-controlled waves, run with fuel rather than freely, and split into easy and hard tiers. Named raids include Data Theft, Perimeter Breach, Frontier Defence, Steel Cradle and Invasion, and they are the main source of crafting resources.

Key WeaponsPunisher

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Punisher should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • The in-game market mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Clan Wars.

Clan Wars: Endgame

Four-versus-four best-of-three matches with no Power Score cap, run across six leagues from Bronze through Silver, Gold, Elite and Master to Legend. This is where uranium ore comes from, and uranium is the gate on every relic weapon in the game.

DifficultyEngineers reputation 10 and up, clan membership required
Key RewardsUranium ore, seasonal clan rewards for at least 10 battles played
Recommended RoleBrawler
Key WeaponsPunisher

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Mechanical legs for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Founders Canyon → Rock City → Ashen Ring → Raids → Clan Wars. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your weapons: Some areas favor different weapons types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
