Equipment Analysis

Dragon's Maw: The highest single-shot damage in the game at 22 to 29, averaging 25.5. It cannot be found or awarded from missions and must be crafted in the Weapon Workshop, so it is a long-term project rather than a lucky drop.

Vengeance: A legendary Gatling laser averaging 23.5 damage that fires in bursts and shifts to the next enemy once its target falls. Lower peak damage than Dragon's Maw, better sustained output against groups.

MIRV: The best area-of-effect weapon in the game, throwing a spread of mini-nukes for 22 to 27 damage split across every enemy in the room. It shines exactly where single-target weapons struggle.

Miss Launcher: The strongest of the missile launcher family, trading rate of fire for heavy per-shot damage. A solid second-tier pick while you are still gathering the parts for a crafted legendary.

Virgil's Rifle: A legendary plasma weapon dealing 19 to 26 damage, obtainable through quest rewards rather than crafting alone. Reliable and much easier to acquire than the crafted top tier.

Meta Analysis

The current meta in Fallout Shelter centers on SPECIAL job assignment and resource production cycles. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one. Our combat guide explains these interactions in depth.

What's strong right now:

  • Strength Power Crew with Dragon's Maw is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
  • room merging and upgrades builds are gaining ground as players find new combinations.
  • Agility Diner Cook remains essential for learning hard content. See the boss guide.

What's underrated:

  • Perception Water Tech is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
  • MIRV offers excellent performance for its investment level.

What's overhyped:

  • Pure Charisma Radio Operator builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
