EA released FIFA 22 on 1 October 2021 with Kylian Mbappe on the cover, and it is the penultimate game to carry the FIFA name before FIFA 23 closed the series and EA Sports FC took over. The marketing headline was HyperMotion, machine learning trained on 11v11 motion capture, and PC did not get it: the Windows build shipped on the older engine that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One received. What PC did get was the rewritten goalkeeper system, Explosive Sprint, True Ball Physics and Composed Ball Control. Two things matter before you buy: EA pulled FIFA 22 from Steam in September 2023, and EA retired its online services on 4 November 2024, so Ultimate Team, Division Rivals and Pro Clubs no longer function.
FIFA 22 features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Create a Club in Manager Career | Fully playable offline, unaffected by the server shutdown | Custom club, custom kits and crest, stadium and atmosphere editing | Stay Back defensive midfielder |
| 2 | Player Career | Fully playable offline | Player growth progression, match objectives, transfer storylines | Stay Back defensive midfielder |
| 3 | FUT 22 | Offline since 4 November 2024 | None currently, the mode cannot be accessed | Cut Inside winger |
| 4 | VOLTA FOOTBALL | Offline content playable, online squads unavailable | Signature Abilities, Skill Meter progression, offline Volta stories | Cut Inside winger |
| 5 | Kick Off and Skill Games | Fully playable offline including local multiplayer | Skill Game medals, local multiplayer, practice against the new goalkeeper AI | Cut Inside winger |
Create a Club in Manager Career: Starting Area
FIFA 22's biggest offline addition. You name a club, choose the nickname the commentary team will use, pick an existing club to replace in the league of your choice, then edit crest, kits, stadium and crowd atmosphere. It is fully offline, so it still works exactly as it did at launch.

|---|---|
| Difficulty | Fully playable offline, unaffected by the server shutdown |
| Key Rewards | Custom club, custom kits and crest, stadium and atmosphere editing |
| Recommended Role | Stay Back defensive midfielder |
| Key Equipment | Four-Touch Turn |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of HyperMotion skipped the PC version. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Player Career.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Player Career: Early Game
Reworked in FIFA 22 around match objectives and a player growth system, with cutscenes covering transfers and manager conversations. Like Manager Career it runs entirely offline, so it is one of the two modes worth installing the game for today.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Fully playable offline |
| Key Rewards | Player growth progression, match objectives, transfer storylines |
| Recommended Role | Stay Back defensive midfielder |
| Key Equipment | Four-Touch Turn |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Goalkeeper rewrite. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Four-Touch Turn if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in FUT 22.
FUT 22: Mid Game
The card collecting mode, built on the pre-rebrand chemistry rules with player chemistry to 10 and team chemistry to 100. FUT Heroes were the new card type, and Division Rivals ran from Division 10 up to the Elite Division. None of it is reachable now: EA retired FIFA 22 online services on 4 November 2024 and the entire mode requires a server connection.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Offline since 4 November 2024 |
| Key Rewards | None currently, the mode cannot be accessed |
| Recommended Role | Cut Inside winger |
| Key Equipment | Four-Touch Turn |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Skilled Bridge becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Explosive Sprint for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
VOLTA FOOTBALL: Late Game
The small-sided street mode, updated in FIFA 22 with a Skill Meter and Signature Abilities. Volta's online components went down with the rest of the online services, but the single player content still loads, which makes it the most complete non-career mode still standing.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Offline content playable, online squads unavailable |
| Key Rewards | Signature Abilities, Skill Meter progression, offline Volta stories |
| Recommended Role | Cut Inside winger |
| Key Equipment | Skilled Bridge |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Skilled Bridge should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Online services retired mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Kick Off and Skill Games.
Kick Off and Skill Games: Endgame
The unglamorous pair that outlived everything else. Kick Off gives you every licensed team in the game for local matches, and Skill Games remain the fastest way to actually learn the four new skill moves and the changed shooting model against the rewritten keepers.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Fully playable offline including local multiplayer |
| Key Rewards | Skill Game medals, local multiplayer, practice against the new goalkeeper AI |
| Recommended Role | Cut Inside winger |
| Key Equipment | Skilled Bridge |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Overlap full back for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Create a Club in Manager Career → Player Career → FUT 22 → VOLTA FOOTBALL → Kick Off and Skill Games. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
