This is the second entry in Square Enix's remake trilogy, not the 1997 original and not Remake, and it reached PC on 23 January 2025. It picks up as the party leaves Midgar and runs through open regions from the Grasslands to the Forgotten Capital, with nine playable characters across the story. Combat keeps the ATB and stagger system from Remake and adds per character Folio skill trees, paired team attacks and a card game deep enough to swallow entire evenings.

FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Grasslands: Starting Area

The first open region after Midgar, centred on Kalm and the chocobo ranch. It teaches the World Intel loop: activate Remnawave towers, follow the revealed markers to Lifesprings and Fiend Intel, and use the region chocobo to reach what walking cannot.

What to Do Here

Junon Region: Early Game

Coastal cliffs and beaches around Junon itself, with a mountain chocobo that climbs surfaces the standard bird cannot. The vertical terrain hides more intel markers than the Grasslands does, so towers matter more here.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Folio skill trees and SP. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Kaiser Knuckles if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Corel Region.

Corel Region: Mid Game

Desert and coastline stretching from Costa del Sol toward the Gold Saucer, and the widest open space in the game. Long travel distances make the chocobo and the fast travel points genuinely necessary rather than optional.

Gongaga Region: Late Game

Dense jungle built around mushroom platforms that launch you between elevations, which is the least readable map in the game on a first pass. Following the intel markers in order saves considerable backtracking.

Key EquipmentBuster Sword

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Buster Sword should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • World Intel and summon shrines mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Cosmo Canyon Region.

Cosmo Canyon Region: Endgame

Canyon country and open plateaus around the observatory, with wide vertical drops that reward a gliding traversal route. Red XIII's story runs through here, and the region's combat challenges scale up sharply.

Key EquipmentBuster Sword

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Red XIII for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Grasslands → Junon Region → Corel Region → Gongaga Region → Cosmo Canyon Region. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
