FM22 recruitment runs on assignments. You point a scout at a player, a position, a region or a competition and set a duration. FM23 later replaced this with filter-driven Recruitment Focus, so scouting advice written for FM23 does not transfer back to this edition.
Weekly Staff Meeting
Runs alongside the Recruitment Meeting that FM21 introduced, and covers Coaching, Development, Staffing and Squad Planning. Your backroom staff raise problems here weeks before the league table makes them obvious.
Deadline Day
Rebuilt so the closing hours of the window actually move. Agents push late proposals at you, loan business surfaces at the last minute, and the minute-by-minute pacing is far closer to a real deadline day than FM21 managed.

Serie A: Italy's top flight, modelled with the country's foreign player registration rules, so a squad assembled the way you would assemble one in England runs into paperwork limits. Wage structures are tighter than the Premier League and free transfers carry more weight.
Ligue 1 Uber Eats: Carried its sponsor name through the FM22 period. The league's real strength is the volume of teenage talent in its academies, so the Data Hub and your scout assignments earn their keep faster here than almost anywhere else.
Sky Bet Championship: England's second tier and the most brutal fixture calendar in the game, with 46 league matches plus cups. Squad depth and rotation matter more than any tactic you pick.

Tips That Actually Matter
- Open the Data Hub after every match and look at the xG timeline before the scoreline. A 2-0 win where you were out-created by 1.8 expected goals is a warning, and FM22 gives you six weeks of those warnings before the results turn.
- Set scout assignments by position and competition rather than by named player. An assignment aimed at right-backs in the Eredivisie for six months returns more usable options than manually filtering a global search you have to repeat every month.
- The Wide Centre-Back only functions with a wing-back ahead of him who can hold width or tuck inside. Give that flank a defensive full-back and the Wide Centre-Back runs into his own teammate for the whole season.
- FM22 pressing accounts for stamina and sprint capacity, so check Work Rate, Stamina and Natural Fitness across your front five before setting a high Trigger Press. A squad averaging under 13 in those cannot sustain it past 60 minutes.
- Attend the weekly Staff Meeting rather than delegating it. Coaching, Development, Staffing and Squad Planning items surface there, and the development flags in particular catch stalled youngsters months before the training report does.
- On deadline day, hold your asking price on players the AI has already bid for twice. The rebuilt window pushes AI clubs into late panic buys, and the last three hours regularly produce the best sale of your season.
- Zone maps in the Data Hub are the quickest way to diagnose a broken flank. If one wide zone shows almost no touches over five matches, the instruction set and the player attributes on that side are contradicting each other.
- Individual training set to a player's match role is what drives role familiarity and attribute growth. Leaving it on the default is the single most common invisible mistake across a FM22 season.
