Knight Online is an old school PvP MMORPG credited to Noah System and Mgame and published by NTT Game, which put it on Steam on 25 January 2016. Two nations, El Morad and Karus, fight over the Adonis Continent, and nearly every system in the game feeds that war. Moradon is the one town where both sides stand together without swinging, and the Magic Anvil sitting in it decides whether your weapon reaches +8 or turns to dust. Progression is deliberately slow and the war events run on a server clock, so the players who get the most out of it are the ones who plan sessions around the timetable.

Combat in Knight Online rewards knowledge over reflexes. Understanding how each mechanic works (and how they interact) is what turns a struggling player into a dominant one. New here? Start with our beginner's guide for the basics.

Core Combat Mechanics

1. El Morad versus Karus nation war

Every character belongs to El Morad, the human kingdom built around El Morad Castle, or Karus, the Tuarek nation around Luferson Castle. The two sides cannot party, trade or chat with each other outside Moradon, so the nation you pick at creation decides who you can play with for the life of that character. Eslant is split too, with each nation locked out of the other side's version.

Why it matters: This is the foundation of all combat. Everything else builds on this.

2. Magic Anvil upgrading to +10

The Magic Anvil in Moradon takes an upgrade scroll plus your item and rolls for a higher plus value, up to +10. Success rates fall off a cliff past +7, and a failed roll destroys the item rather than just knocking it back a level. Trina's Piece from the Power Up Store adds roughly twenty percentage points to the attempt, which is why serious upgraders never touch the anvil without one.

Why it matters: The most underrated mechanic. Players who master this early have a massive advantage.

3. National Points and clan grades

Killing a player of the enemy nation awards National Points and dying to one takes them away, so NP is the closest thing the game has to a public scoreboard. Clan grade is calculated from the NP that members bank in PvP zones, which is why organised guilds camp Ronark Land rather than grinding quiet spawns. High NP totals also unlock prestige gear and titles that mark you out on sight.

Why it matters: Unlocks a new layer of gameplay depth once understood.

4. Scheduled war events

Border Defense War, Forgotten Temple, Chaos, Bifrost, Castle Siege War, Juraid Mountain, Lunar War and Dark Lunar War all fire on a fixed server timetable instead of on demand. Castle Siege War at Delos is the big one, because the clan holding the castle collects Delos and Moradon taxes and gains access to Castellan weapons. Deaths during the siege itself carry no XP, NP or Noah penalty, so it is the one place where throwing yourself at a wall costs nothing.

Why it matters: The tactical edge that separates average players from advanced ones.

5. Second job change at level 60

The first job change happens at level 10 and the second at level 60, and each one opens a fresh skill book. Warriors become Blades on El Morad or Berserkers on Karus, Rogues become Rangers or Hunters, and Priests become Clerics or Shamans. The mirrored names hide fairly similar kits, so the practical difference between nations is population and server politics rather than raw class power.

Why it matters: The endgame optimization mechanic. Small improvements here compound into massive gains.

How These Mechanics Combine

Understanding how mechanics interact is where real optimization happens:

El Morad versus Karus nation war + Magic Anvil upgrading to +10

Every character belongs to El Morad, the human kingdom built around El Morad Castle, or Karus, the Tuarek nation around Luferson Castle. When combined with Magic Anvil upgrading to +10, the magic anvil in moradon takes an upgrade scroll plus your item and rolls for a higher plus value, up to +10. This combination is the core of every effective build.

National Points and clan grades + Scheduled war events

Killing a player of the enemy nation awards National Points and dying to one takes them away, so NP is the closest thing the game has to a public scoreboard. Paired with Scheduled war events, border defense war, forgotten temple, chaos, bifrost, castle siege war, juraid mountain, lunar war and dark lunar war all fire on a fixed server timetable instead of on demand. This is why the tier list favors builds that leverage both.

Second job change at level 60 as a Multiplier

The first job change happens at level 10 and the second at level 60, and each one opens a fresh skill book. Warriors become Blades on El Morad or Berserkers on Karus, Rogues become Rangers or Hunters, and Priests become Clerics or Shamans. The mirrored names hide fairly similar kits, so the practical difference between nations is population and server politics rather than raw class power. This system amplifies everything else. The better your Second job change at level 60 optimization, the more your other mechanics pay off.

Advanced Combat Techniques

Damage Optimization

  1. Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities
  2. Exploit El Morad versus Karus nation war for maximum damage windows
  3. Chain Magic Anvil upgrading to +10 and National Points and clan grades for combo damage
  4. Use Scheduled war events to create openings

Survivability

  1. Learn enemy patterns before committing to attacks
  2. Quests give better experience and gear than grinding below level 30, so clear the Moradon and starting kingdom quest chains before you settle into a spawn.
  3. Position using El Morad versus Karus nation war to control spacing
  4. Save defensive options for guaranteed survival, not comfort

Boss Combat

Bosses test your understanding of every mechanic. See our boss guide for fight-specific strategies.

  • Phase awareness: Most bosses change behavior at health thresholds
  • Patience over aggression: One extra hit per opening beats dying to greed
  • Build preparation: Swap gear and equipment for specific fights when needed

Common Combat Mistakes

  1. Button mashing: Committed attacks have recovery frames. Mashing locks you into animations.
  2. Ignoring Magic Anvil upgrading to +10: This mechanic exists for a reason. Players who use it take significantly less damage.
  3. Wrong equipment for the situation: Check our weapons guide for situational picks.
  4. Not learning from deaths: Every death teaches something. If you don't know why you died, you'll die the same way again.
  5. Overcommitting: Trading hits works in Moradon but will get you killed in Bifrost.
