ONE PIECE Bounty Rush is a free to play 4v4 team brawler developed by SEGA and published by Bandai Namco, where eight players fight over treasure areas across stages drawn from Alabasta, Water Seven, Marineford, Dressrosa and Onigashima. Matches are won by holding treasure, not by racking up knockouts, which is why a Runner who never fights can matter more than an Attacker with a full kill count. Characters slot into Attacker, Defender, Runner and Supporter types, carry up to three medals each, and unlock Trait 1 at level 60 and Trait 2 at level 80.
These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.
Essential Tips
1. Win by treasure, not by knockouts
Win by treasure, not by knockouts. A team with fewer eliminations wins if it holds more points when the timer runs out.
2. Push for the second treasure area at the start of the match, because holding the point next to your own gives your team a shorter rotation than the enemy has

3. Check the colour triangle before you commit to a duel, since Red beats Green, Green beats Blue and Blue beats Red and the loser of that matchup rarely wins a straight fight

4. Match medal tags across all three slots rather than equipping the three highest rarity medals you own, because the combination bonus is where the real gain is

5. Level a character past 60 for Trait 1 and past 80 for Trait 2 before spending anything on a new five star, since traits change a character more than rarity does

6. Use a Defender to top a captured gauge all the way up, because a full gauge takes the enemy noticeably longer to flip back

7. Play Runners as capture tools, not fighters
Play Runners as capture tools, not fighters. Their attack and defence are the lowest in the game and their value is entirely in speed.
8. Slot Support characters behind your main fighter, since those deployed slots add stats to the character you actually control

9. Keep at least one levelled character of each colour so you can respond to whatever the enemy team brings

10. Interrupt a capture rather than finishing a kill
Interrupt a capture rather than finishing a kill. Breaking the gauge is worth more to the scoreboard than the knockout would have been.
Advanced Strategies
Role Optimization
The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.
For Attacker (A-Tier):
- Focus on Treasure area capture combinations for maximum output.
- Core gear: Skill 1
- Stat priority: Offensive stats first
For Defender (A-Tier):
- Versatile approach that handles any situation.
- Core gear: Skill 2
- Stat priority: Balanced stats
Mechanic Interactions
Understanding how ONE PIECE Bounty Rush's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.
Treasure area capture + Character type roles: Eight players split into two teams of four and contest treasure points across the stage. Combined with Character type roles, attacker, defender, runner and supporter each do a different job.
Red Green Blue element triangle + Medal loadouts: Every character carries a colour and the triangle is fixed: Red beats Green, Green beats Blue, Blue beats Red. When paired with Medal loadouts, up to three medals go on each character, and each medal falls into an attack, defense, cool, movement or support category.
Character Traits and Boost scaling: Trait 1 unlocks at level 60 and Trait 2 at level 80, with further Boost Traits available through the Character Boost system. An unlevelled five star character is often weaker in practice than a fully trait unlocked four star.
Weapons Efficiency
| Weapon | Best Use Case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Skill 1 | Interrupting an enemy capture or opening a duel | The first of two active skills on every character, each on its own cooldown. |
| Skill 2 | Finishing a fight or clearing several enemies off a treasure point | The second active skill, usually the higher impact of the pair and correspondingly slower to come back. |
| Special Move | Breaking a stalemate on a contested point at the end of a match | The character's signature attack, charged during the match rather than available on demand, and it plays a full cinematic when triggered. |
| Character Traits | Turning an owned four star into something that beats an unlevelled five star | Trait 1 at level 60, Trait 2 at level 80, and Boost Traits through the Character Boost system. |
| Medal Abilities | Tuning a character toward capture speed, survivability or burst damage | Three medal slots per character across Attack, Defense, Cool, Movement and Support categories, with combination bonuses for matching tags. |
Location Efficiency
Alabasta (All ranks): The desert kingdom stage, available in both day and night variants, with open sightlines that favour Attackers who can see a Runner coming.
Water Seven (All ranks): The canal city, built with tighter routing and level changes that reward Runners who know the shortcuts between treasure points.
Marineford (All ranks): The Summit War battleground, also present as boss battle variants, with wide contested ground in the middle that turns into a Defender standoff.
Dressrosa (All ranks): Available as both the main stage and a separate Dressrosa City layout, with street level fighting where Supporters keep a held point alive.
Onigashima (All ranks): The Wano arc stage, one of the later additions alongside Egghead and Marijoa, and a favourite for testing newly released characters.
Mistakes Even Veterans Make
- Playing for knockouts and finishing a match with the highest damage on a losing team, because treasure held is the only thing scored.
- Equipping three unrelated high rarity medals and missing the combination bonus that matching tags would have unlocked.
- Pulling for a new five star instead of levelling an owned four star to 80 for Trait 2.
- Taking a Runner into the middle of a team fight, where its low attack and defence make it the easiest target on the map.
- Ignoring the colour triangle and repeatedly duelling into a hard counter matchup.
Pro Quick Tips
- Win by treasure, not by knockouts. A team with fewer eliminations wins if it holds more points when the timer runs out.
- Push for the second treasure area at the start of the match, because holding the point next to your own gives your team a shorter rotation than the enemy has.
- Check the colour triangle before you commit to a duel, since Red beats Green, Green beats Blue and Blue beats Red and the loser of that matchup rarely wins a straight fight.
- Start with Defender, switch to Attacker when ready
- Invest in Skill 1 above everything else
- Clear areas in order: Alabasta → Water Seven → Marineford → Dressrosa → Onigashima. See our maps guide
- Treasure area capture + Character type roles together are stronger than either alone
