Party Animals Walkthrough: Start to Endgame

Step-by-step Party Animals walkthrough covering every phase from first session to endgame. Complete progression guide with milestones and checklists.

Recreate Games shipped Party Animals on 20 September 2023, and the pitch is simple: puppies, kittens and gorillas punch each other off ledges using floppy ragdoll physics. Punching, grabbing, climbing and rolling all drain one shared stamina bar, so an empty bar is usually what kills you rather than the other animal. Around 70 characters exist between the base roster and Surprise Eggs, and every single one of them is cosmetic.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (Ichiban)

A Last Stand map with raised platforms and plenty of edge to be shoved over. Fights collapse into a scrum in the middle within seconds, and the players who waited at the rim tend to be the ones still standing.

Level/Difficulty: Last Stand mode, team or free-for-all Key Rewards: Round wins and match XP toward account levels

What to Do in Ichiban

  1. Learn Ragdoll physics control. You are not moving limbs directly. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick Hit and run puncher as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Create distance before you swing. Punches land far more often with a step of space, because the wind-up finishes before your target drifts out of the arc. Standing chest to chest and mashing burns your whole bar for nothing.
  4. Acquire your first weapons upgrade: Headbutt or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand Ragdoll physics control fundamentals
  • Hit and run puncher selected and functional
  • Ichiban main content cleared
  • Ready for Beat-Up Bridge

Phase 2: Early Game (Beat-Up Bridge)

A tilting, destructible bridge that loses planks as the round goes on. Late in a match there is more gap than bridge, and the winner is whoever committed to fewer swings over open air.

Level/Difficulty: Last Stand mode, best with a full lobby Key Rewards: Round wins, cosmetic currency from finishing matches

What to Do in Beat-Up Bridge

  1. Work on Stamina bar. The ring around your portrait in the top left corner is stamina, and punching, grabbing, climbing and rolling all eat into it. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Headbutt if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. Grabbing beats punching in almost every situation. A grab locks an opponent in place, lets you walk them toward an edge, and costs less stamina than the string of misses you would otherwise throw.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to Broken Arrow.
  5. Consider whether Ledge guard grappler might suit your playstyle better than Hit and run puncher.

Phase 2 Checklist

  • Stamina bar integrated into gameplay
  • Headbutt acquired
  • Beat-Up Bridge fully cleared
  • Ready for Broken Arrow

Phase 3: Mid Game (Broken Arrow)

Fought aboard an aircraft in flight, so the floor pitches and the open sides are a permanent threat. The plane does more killing than the other animals do.

Level/Difficulty: Last Stand mode Key Rewards: Round wins and match XP

What to Do in Broken Arrow

  1. Master Grab and throw. Grab with the left mouse button or the right trigger, then throw whatever you are holding. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Punch. It's the best weapon and becomes accessible around now.
  3. Commando rolling covers more ground than running and is genuinely hard to hit. Use it to reach a dropped weapon, to escape a scrum, and to cross Beat-Up Bridge before the planks go.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in Commando roll for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • Grab and throw mastered
  • Punch acquired or in progress
  • Broken Arrow fully cleared
  • Ready for Winter Is Coming

Phase 4: Late Game (Winter Is Coming)

A Last Stand map with ice underfoot that removes most of your ability to stop. Sliding is the entire map. You can chain somebody's own momentum into a fall without ever landing a hit.

Level/Difficulty: Last Stand mode Key Rewards: Round wins and match XP

What to Do in Winter Is Coming

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running Ledge guard grappler or Hit and run puncher with optimized gear.
  2. Punch should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. Never fight in the center of a Last Stand map. That is where three other animals are already flailing at each other. The winner is usually whoever edged around the outside and pushed the survivors off.
  4. Map hazards and pickups optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Fluffy Redemption.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Punch upgraded to max
  • Winter Is Coming fully cleared
  • Ready for Fluffy Redemption

Phase 5: Endgame (Fluffy Redemption)

A Team Score map where teams carry coal to a train furnace. Scoring is a delivery race, which makes blocking the enemy carrier at the furnace mouth worth more than winning a brawl in the open.

Level/Difficulty: Team Score mode, team based Key Rewards: Team score and match XP toward character unlocks

What to Do in Fluffy Redemption

  1. Fluffy Redemption tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Keep one hand free in Team Score modes. Carrying an object means you cannot grab, so a carrier needs an escort, and the fastest way to stop a scoring run is to grab the carrier rather than swing at them.
  3. The endgame loop: run Fluffy Redemption, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with Team blocker for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where Map hazards and pickups mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • Fluffy Redemption fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Mashing attack in a crowd. Every swing costs stamina, most of them miss, and the animal who runs dry in a four-way scrum is the one who goes over the edge.
  • Chasing knockouts instead of playing the objective. Team Score maps are decided by deliveries and blocks, and somebody who spends the round brawling has contributed nothing to the score.
  • Buying cosmetics expecting an edge. Every store purchase is appearance only. No skin, egg or character changes speed, reach or damage.
  • Ignoring the stamina ring while hanging from a ledge. It drains the whole time you hold on, and there is no warning beyond the ring itself before you let go.
  • Treating the physics as broken. Momentum carrying past your input is a rule, not a bug, and players who plan around the drift beat players who keep fighting it.

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Create distance before you swing. Punches land far more often with a step of space, because the wind-up finishes before your target drifts out of the arc. Standing chest to chest and mashing burns your whole bar for nothing.
  2. Grabbing beats punching in almost every situation. A grab locks an opponent in place, lets you walk them toward an edge, and costs less stamina than the string of misses you would otherwise throw.
  3. Commando rolling covers more ground than running and is genuinely hard to hit. Use it to reach a dropped weapon, to escape a scrum, and to cross Beat-Up Bridge before the planks go.
  4. Never fight in the center of a Last Stand map. That is where three other animals are already flailing at each other. The winner is usually whoever edged around the outside and pushed the survivors off.
  5. Keep one hand free in Team Score modes. Carrying an object means you cannot grab, so a carrier needs an escort, and the fastest way to stop a scoring run is to grab the carrier rather than swing at them.
