Owlcat Games released Wrath of the Righteous on 2 September 2021, built on the Pathfinder first edition tabletop rules and the adventure path of the same name. Character creation offers 25 classes, 12 races and more than a thousand spells, feats and abilities, and combat switches between turn based and real time with pause at any moment. Above all of that sit the Mythic Paths and a crusade layer where you command the Fifth Crusade against the Worldwound.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Enhanced Edition features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Build |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kenabres | Character levels 1 to 5 | Your first companions, Terendelev's scales, the route into the Gray Garrison | Slayer |
| 2 | Gray Garrison | Character levels 4 to 6 | Radiance, the end of Chapter 1, your first mythic power | Slayer |
| 3 | Drezen | Character levels 7 to 20 | Crusade command, the Sword of Valor banner, base upgrades and the respec trainer | Paladin |
| 4 | The Midnight Isles | Character levels 12 to 15 | Abyssal equipment, Nocticula's storyline, several mythic ranks | Paladin |
| 5 | Iz | Character levels 15 to 18 | High mythic rank abilities, endgame equipment, the approach to the final chapter | Paladin |
Kenabres: Starting Area
The crusader city where the campaign opens and which is destroyed by a demon assault during the Armasse festival within the first ten minutes. Chapter 1 plays out in its ruins and the caverns beneath them.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Character levels 1 to 5 |
| Key Rewards | Your first companions, Terendelev's scales, the route into the Gray Garrison |
| Recommended Build | Slayer |
| Key Equipment | Finnean the Talking Weapon |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Mythic Paths. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Gray Garrison.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Gray Garrison: Early Game
The demon held fortress that closes Chapter 1. Clearing it is what turns a survivor of a city collapse into a mythic commander with an army to run.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Character levels 4 to 6 |
| Key Rewards | Radiance, the end of Chapter 1, your first mythic power |
| Recommended Build | Slayer |
| Key Equipment | Finnean the Talking Weapon |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Crusade army management. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Finnean the Talking Weapon if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Drezen.
Drezen: Mid Game
The fallen crusader citadel you retake at the end of Chapter 2, and your base for everything after it. Crusade management, the throne room and most companion quests all route through here.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Character levels 7 to 20 |
| Key Rewards | Crusade command, the Sword of Valor banner, base upgrades and the respec trainer |
| Recommended Build | Paladin |
| Key Equipment | Finnean the Talking Weapon |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Radiance becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Turn based or real time with pause for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
The Midnight Isles: Late Game
Chapter 4 moves the campaign into the Abyss itself, into Nocticula's territory and the demon city of Alushinyrra. Assumptions that held in the mortal world stop applying here.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Character levels 12 to 15 |
| Key Rewards | Abyssal equipment, Nocticula's storyline, several mythic ranks |
| Recommended Build | Paladin |
| Key Equipment | Radiance |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Radiance should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Six chapters from Kenabres to the Worldwound mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Iz.
Iz: Endgame
A ruined city reached in the later chapters and tied to the campaign's endgame. By this point mythic rank rather than class level decides most fights.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Character levels 15 to 18 |
| Key Rewards | High mythic rank abilities, endgame equipment, the approach to the final chapter |
| Recommended Build | Paladin |
| Key Equipment | Radiance |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Magus for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Kenabres → Gray Garrison → Drezen → The Midnight Isles → Iz. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
