People Playground is a 2D physics sandbox by mestiez, published by Studio Minus and on Steam since 23 July 2019. Every object carries its own weight, sharpness, conductivity and heat capacity, and every ragdoll has bones, organs, blood and a nervous system rather than a health bar. There is no score and no win condition, only firearms, machinery, syringes, wires and a Steam Workshop full of extra parts.

Resource management and crafting determine how quickly your power scales. This guide covers what to prioritize, where to farm, and how to avoid wasting resources on the wrong upgrades.

Crafting Priority List

The order you should invest resources:

PriorityTargetWhy
1Primary equipmentBiggest damage increase per resource spent
2Core build gearEnables your build's key combinations
3Defensive upgradesSurvivability for boss fights
4Secondary equipmentSituational options for specific content
5ConsumablesTemporary boosts for hard content

Resource Farming by Area

Default

Key resources: Clean baseline physics, no environmental interference Farming efficiency: Low value per run, but safe and consistent

Focus on gathering materials for Atom Bomb upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Void

Key resources: Zero clutter, automatic debris removal Farming efficiency: Good early-game farming spot

Focus on gathering materials for Atom Bomb upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Sea

Key resources: Boat and submarine testing, drowning and conductivity results Farming efficiency: Best mid-game farming, worth revisiting

Focus on gathering materials for Atom Bomb upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Lava

Key resources: Heat transfer tests, ignition and melting behaviour Farming efficiency: High-value materials for late-game upgrades

This is where you farm materials for 9mm Pistol max upgrades. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Humongous

Key resources: Long range weapon tests, large vehicles, multi part contraptions Farming efficiency: Best resources in the game, requires strong build

This is where you farm materials for 9mm Pistol max upgrades. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Upgrade Path

Early Game (Default to Void)

  1. Upgrade your starting equipment to functional level
  2. Craft basic defensive gear
  3. Save specialty materials, since you'll need them later
  4. Focus on Atom Bomb once accessible

Mid Game (Sea)

  1. Push Atom Bomb to mid-level upgrades
  2. Start collecting materials for 9mm Pistol
  3. Craft situational consumables for boss fights
  4. Upgrade build-specific gear pieces

Late Game (Lava to Humongous)

  1. Max out 9mm Pistol. This is your top priority
  2. Complete your build's core gear set
  3. Craft endgame consumables
  4. Optional: upgrade secondary equipment for variety

Crafting Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Spreading upgrades across multiple equipment: Focus one weapon to max before diversifying.
  2. Hoarding materials: Use them. The game provides enough if you farm efficiently.
  3. Upgrading the wrong gear: Check our builds guide before investing.
  4. Ignoring Sea farming: This area has the best resource-to-time ratio in mid-game.
  5. Crafting consumables too early: Save specialty materials for late-game recipes.

Resource Efficiency Tips

  • Join frames with Steel Binding instead of Rope or Cable. A binding holds its angle, while a rope lets the chassis fold the instant a Thruster fires, which is why most first aircraft flip rather than climb.
  • Farm Sea during mid-game for the best return on time
  • Check the walkthrough to know when each resource becomes available
  • Match your farming route to your build. Some classes farm faster in certain areas
