Saber Interactive's RoadCraft, released 20 May 2025, puts you in charge of a disaster recovery contractor working eight maps of roughly four square kilometres each. You clear wreckage, pour sand, pave asphalt, then hand the finished road to AI convoys that haul cargo while you go and build the next one. Terrain deforms permanently under weight, so the shortcut you rushed on trip one is the mud pit that strands a loaded truck on trip three.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.
Quick Progression Summary
| Phase | Area | Focus | Build | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Start | Aftermath | Four stage road building basics | Cargo hauler | 1-2 hours |
| 2. Early | Precipice | Terrain deformation mastery | Cargo hauler | 3-5 hours |
| 3. Mid | Sojourn | Logistics routes + gear | Scout or Cargo hauler | 5-10 hours |
| 4. Late | Sunken | Build optimization | Scout | 5-10 hours |
| 5. Endgame | Kernel | Min-max | Scout or Mobile crane | Ongoing |
See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (Aftermath)
The opening North African map, set in spring after a storm has passed. It teaches the road chain on relatively forgiving terrain with debris blocking most of the useful routes.
Level/Difficulty: Campaign opening Key Rewards: First dozer and paver access, road building tutorial contracts
What to Do in Aftermath
- Learn Four stage road building. A finished road wants sand dumped along the line, a dozer pass to flatten the bed, an asphalt paver driven slowly over it, then a roller to compact the surface. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Cargo hauler as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
- Pour sand, then make at least two full dozer passes over it before the paver touches it. The paver follows the surface it is given, so a lumpy sand bed produces a road with gaps that trucks will get caught on for the rest of the map.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Kronenwerk L-34 or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand Four stage road building fundamentals
- Cargo hauler selected and functional
- Aftermath main content cleared
- Ready for Precipice
Phase 2: Early Game (Precipice)
A desert map where the job is delivering supplies while holding back flooding. Sand is everywhere but stable ground is not, and the water keeps changing which routes still work.
Level/Difficulty: Early campaign Key Rewards: Flood control contracts, supply delivery payouts
What to Do in Precipice
- Work on Terrain deformation. Mud, sand and snow deform under weight and stay deformed for the rest of the map. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Kronenwerk L-34 if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Drive every logistics route manually once before you assign AI trucks to it. Automated convoys have no judgement about mud, fallen trees or a half finished bridge, and a jammed convoy blocks the road for everyone including you.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Sojourn.
- Consider whether Scout might suit your playstyle better than Cargo hauler.
Phase 2 Checklist
- Terrain deformation integrated into gameplay
- Kronenwerk L-34 acquired
- Precipice fully cleared
- Ready for Sojourn
Phase 3: Mid Game (Sojourn)
Another desert map built around rerouting a gas line while sinkholes open under the terrain. Routes need rechecking constantly because the ground itself is the hazard here.
Level/Difficulty: Mid campaign Key Rewards: Gas pipeline objectives, sinkhole repair equipment
What to Do in Sojourn
- Master Logistics routes. Once a path is drivable you draw a point to point route on the map and hand it to AI trucks that run cargo without you. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Tayga 6455B. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Draw route lines down one side of the carriageway rather than the middle. Convoys running in opposite directions along a centre line will meet nose to nose and neither will back up, which costs more time than the detour ever would.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Scrap recycling for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- Logistics routes mastered
- Tayga 6455B acquired or in progress
- Sojourn fully cleared
- Ready for Sunken
Phase 4: Late Game (Sunken)
An Eastern European summer map dominated by standing water and soft ground. Wheeled vehicles struggle badly, which makes tracked machines and early paving far more valuable than usual.
Level/Difficulty: Mid to late campaign Key Rewards: Tracked vehicle unlocks, bridge fabrication contracts
What to Do in Sunken
- Finalize your build. You should be running Scout or Cargo hauler with optimized gear.
- Tayga 6455B should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Recycle wreckage rather than bulldozing it out of the way. Large objects break down into more steel beams, pipes and concrete slabs than small ones, and those materials are exactly what the bridge and building contracts later demand.
- Recovery Tokens optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Kernel.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Tayga 6455B upgraded to max
- Sunken fully cleared
- Ready for Kernel
Phase 5: Endgame (Kernel)
The Scandinavian summer map, with forest, rock and long distances between sites. Logging equipment and the heavy transporter matter more here than on any of the desert maps.
Level/Difficulty: Late campaign Key Rewards: Logging contracts, long haul convoy routes
What to Do in Kernel
- Kernel tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Spend Recovery Tokens on sand refill stations near the far end of a map, not near the garage. The whole point of the token is to cut a long empty return trip, and there is usually already a supply near your starting area.
- The endgame loop: run Kernel, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Mobile crane for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where Recovery Tokens mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Kernel fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Paving over sand that was never flattened
- Automating a convoy route you have not driven yourself
- Bulldozing debris aside instead of recycling it
- Driving pavers and rollers long distances under their own power
- Spending Recovery Tokens near the garage where supply already exists
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Pour sand, then make at least two full dozer passes over it before the paver touches it. The paver follows the surface it is given, so a lumpy sand bed produces a road with gaps that trucks will get caught on for the rest of the map.
- Drive every logistics route manually once before you assign AI trucks to it. Automated convoys have no judgement about mud, fallen trees or a half finished bridge, and a jammed convoy blocks the road for everyone including you.
- Draw route lines down one side of the carriageway rather than the middle. Convoys running in opposite directions along a centre line will meet nose to nose and neither will back up, which costs more time than the detour ever would.
- Recycle wreckage rather than bulldozing it out of the way. Large objects break down into more steel beams, pipes and concrete slabs than small ones, and those materials are exactly what the bridge and building contracts later demand.
- Spend Recovery Tokens on sand refill stations near the far end of a map, not near the garage. The whole point of the token is to cut a long empty return trip, and there is usually already a supply near your starting area.
