Q: How many maps are there?

Five campaign maps: Cascade Hills, Drucker County and Meagher Valley from the original release, Providence Ridge added with the Juggernaut Edition in March 2020, and Trumbull Valley added afterwards. Communities can be moved between them, so a run is not tied to the map it started on.

Q: What does destroying a Plague Heart actually do?

It removes the plague territory around it, drops plague samples used for crafting Plague Cures, and moves you toward the endgame. Legacy Goals appear while hearts remain on the map, and Legacy Missions only begin once every one of them is gone.

Q: Which leader type should I pick first?

Sheriff, because it keeps enclaves friendly and its missions revolve around helping people rather than fighting them. Warlord generates the most hostile encounters and is easier once you already know how Juggernaut and Feral fights resolve.

Q: How do I cure Blood Plague?

Craft a Plague Cure at any Infirmary using 5 plague samples and 2 Meds, then use it on the infected survivor. Samples drop from plague zombies and from destroyed Plague Hearts, so clearing hearts early keeps the cure supply ahead of the infections.

Q: Do survivors really die permanently?

Yes. Death is permanent for that community, along with the survivor's skills, specializations and whatever they were carrying. That is why rotating characters, keeping the Infirmary upgraded and retreating from Juggernauts matters more than any individual fight.
