Q: How many maps are there?

Five campaign maps: Cascade Hills, Drucker County and Meagher Valley from the original release, Providence Ridge added with the Juggernaut Edition in March 2020, and Trumbull Valley added afterwards. Communities can be moved between them, so a run is not tied to the map it started on.

Q: What does destroying a Plague Heart actually do?

It removes the plague territory around it, drops plague samples used for crafting Plague Cures, and moves you toward the endgame. Legacy Goals appear while hearts remain on the map, and Legacy Missions only begin once every one of them is gone.

Q: Which leader type should I pick first?

Sheriff, because it keeps enclaves friendly and its missions revolve around helping people rather than fighting them. Warlord generates the most hostile encounters and is easier once you already know how Juggernaut and Feral fights resolve.

Q: How do I cure Blood Plague?

Craft a Plague Cure at any Infirmary using 5 plague samples and 2 Meds, then use it on the infected survivor. Samples drop from plague zombies and from destroyed Plague Hearts, so clearing hearts early keeps the cure supply ahead of the infections.

Q: Do survivors really die permanently?

Yes. Death is permanent for that community, along with the survivor's skills, specializations and whatever they were carrying. That is why rotating characters, keeping the Infirmary upgraded and retreating from Juggernauts matters more than any individual fight.

State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition is Undead Labs' community survival game, relaunched on 13 March 2020 with the Providence Ridge map folded in alongside Cascade Hills, Drucker County and Meagher Valley, with Trumbull Valley added later. You do not play a character, you play a settlement: every survivor has four core skills in Cardio, Wits, Fighting and Shooting plus a fifth community or quirk skill, and any of them can die permanently. The map-level goal is destroying every Plague Heart, and the run ends when your chosen leader, a Sheriff, Trader, Builder or Warlord, finishes their Legacy missions.

Cascade Hills: Starting Area

One of the original three maps, hilly and forested with tight roads that punish careless driving. It is a reasonable starting map because the terrain limits how many zombies can reach you at once.

Drucker County: Early Game

Flatter and more open than Cascade Hills, with long sightlines and heavier vehicle use. Open ground means Ferals and Screamers spot you sooner, so it rewards a community that already has Shooting specializations.

Focus on mastering Plague Hearts and Blood Plague. It's critical from this point on.

Meagher Valley: Mid Game

The third original map, agricultural and comparatively forgiving, with generous resource density. It is the map most often recommended for a first Builder run because the home sites suit heavy facility investment.

Trumbull Valley: Endgame

The valley from the first State of Decay, added later as a campaign map. It carries the most history for returning players and it is the setting Heartland uses, so many of its landmarks are already familiar.
