Tale of Immortal is a Chinese cultivation sandbox drawn from the Classic of Mountains and Seas, and it sold millions of copies in early access before most Western players had heard of it. You start as a nobody in Yukong Village at the Qi Refining stage and climb ten cultivation realms toward Transcendent. The world runs without you: NPCs age, found sects, marry, break through and die whether or not you ever meet them.
Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword | S | First playthroughs, boss duels and any fight where one large health bar is the whole problem. | Fast left click strikes plus flying sword specials give the highest single target damage across the early and mid game. |
| Blade | A | Clearing demon beast packs and players who would rather trade hits than kite. | Wide sweeping arcs with lifesteal built into many blade manuals. |
| Spear | A | Players comfortable with spacing who want a reach advantage against melee bosses. | Long reach and strong forward thrusts that punish enemies before they close. |
| Fist | B | Shield stacking builds at Golden Core and above, where shield values get large enough to make the detonation ridiculous. | Short range and shield centred. |
| Palm | B | Hybrid casters who need crowd control and grouping rather than burst damage. | Broad area pushes and control effects, weaker on raw numbers but strong at moving enemies where you want them. |

Equipment Progression Path
The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear Yukong Village
- Blade → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Spear → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Sword → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Equipment Tips
- Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Sword is the least punishing first weapon path because its damage comes from fast basic attacks rather than from a specific rare manual. Blade and fist both need particular manuals before they feel functional, and finding those on a blind first run is luck.
- Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
