This Teardown tier list ranks every major option by overall effectiveness. Rankings factor in damage output, survivability, versatility, gear requirements, and how well each option scales.
Tier definitions: S = best in class, always a strong pick. A = strong and competitive, minor weaknesses. B = solid but clearly outperformed in most situations. C = viable only for players who enjoy the playstyle.

Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Best With | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sledgehammer | Opening interior walls, windows and floors during preparation, when nothing is being timed. | The starting tool and the only one with no ammunition meter. |
| Blowtorch | Metal gates and marina hulls, and any locked door where the frame is the weak point. | Melts through metal, which the sledgehammer simply bounces off. |
| Spray can | Marking the escape path, target positions and plank anchor points before the alarm starts. | Draws coloured lines on any surface and destroys nothing at all. |
| Plank | Crossing water at West Point Marina and reaching upper floors without using stairs. | Fires planks that stick where they land and hold your weight. |
| Pipe bomb | Concrete and stone walls, and pre rigged demolition contracts where the target is the building itself. | A thrown explosive with a short fuse and a blast wide enough to open concrete. |
Check our weapons guide for in-depth stats and comparisons.
Equipment Analysis
Sledgehammer: The starting tool and the only one with no ammunition meter. It breaks wood, glass and plaster instantly and chews weak masonry slowly, and its upgrades raise how hard a material it can handle.
Blowtorch: Melts through metal, which the sledgehammer simply bounces off. Hinges, chains, safe doors, shipping containers and boat hulls all fall to it, and its fuel recharges rather than running out permanently.
Spray can: Draws coloured lines on any surface and destroys nothing at all. It is the only tool with no upgrades, because marking a route does not scale.
Plank: Fires planks that stick where they land and hold your weight. Upgrades raise both the number you carry and how long each one is, which is why it is the first upgrade worth buying.
Pipe bomb: A thrown explosive with a short fuse and a blast wide enough to open concrete. You carry a limited number, so it is worth saving for material that nothing else touches.
Meta Analysis
The current meta in Teardown centers on Unlimited preparation, 60 second escape and Destruction that persists into the timer. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one. Our combat guide explains these interactions in depth.
What's strong right now:
- Tunnel Runner with Sledgehammer is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
- Tool upgrades bought with heist money builds are gaining ground as players find new combinations.
- Vehicle Extractor remains essential for learning hard content. See the boss guide.
What's underrated:
- Plank Bridge Router is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
- Spray can offers excellent performance for its investment level.
What's overhyped:
- Pure Quiet Cutter builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
Quick Picks by Situation
