The Slormancer is Slormite Studios' pixel art action RPG, released in 1.0 on 13 May 2025 after four years in Early Access. Three classes, the Mighty Knight, the Fierce Huntress and the Mischievous Mage, each get around 120 Slorm Reapers, and the shared Ancestral Legacy holds more than 150 elemental skills and passives. Respeccing costs nothing, so the game expects you to rebuild constantly rather than commit to one plan.
These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.
Essential Tips
1. Swap between all three classes in town before you settle
Swap between all three classes in town before you settle. Characters share the town and you lose nothing by testing the Knight, Huntress and Mage for an hour each rather than reading a tier list.
2. Configure a loot filter in the first few hours
Configure a loot filter in the first few hours. Hidden items auto convert into currency, which turns the endless drop stream into passive Goldus instead of forty inventory decisions per run.
3. Every point of Slorm you invest in a skill upgrade can be withdrawn at no cost, and Ormos handles skill respeccing
Every point of Slorm you invest in a skill upgrade can be withdrawn at no cost, and Ormos handles skill respeccing. Treat every build as a draft you revise between runs.
4. Pick one legendary and level it hard rather than spreading upgrades
Pick one legendary and level it hard rather than spreading upgrades. Arcanic Pledge only reaches roughly full beam uptime at plus 13, and the same shape applies to every other named effect.
5. Reapers level separately from your character through kills, so a reaper you just found will feel weak
Reapers level separately from your character through kills, so a reaper you just found will feel weak. Give a promising reaper a few full expeditions before judging its effect.
6. Hover any underlined word in a tooltip
Hover any underlined word in a tooltip. The game defines its own terms in place, and several stats behave differently from the ARPG defaults you may expect.
7. Run expeditions for levelling rather than replaying story areas
Run expeditions for levelling rather than replaying story areas. They are the fastest combined source of Goldus, Slorm and experience, and they drop the Breaches that hand out reapers.
8. Do the endgame in order: Battlefield first to check your build, then Slorm Temple for Ultimatums, then Great Forge for runes
Do the endgame in order: Battlefield first to check your build, then Slorm Temple for Ultimatums, then Great Forge for runes. Skipping to the Forge with an unfinished build wastes wave time.
9. Build your rune set as one unit
Build your rune set as one unit. An Activation rune with no matching Effect rune does nothing, and the Enhancement rune is what makes the pair worth a slot.
10. The Netherworld holds 45 Cataclysm runs and 25 Warlords, and defeating those Warlords is the gate on the Ohm Agad finale
The Netherworld holds 45 Cataclysm runs and 25 Warlords, and defeating those Warlords is the gate on the Ohm Agad finale. Treat it as a checklist rather than an open grind.
Advanced Strategies
Build Optimization
The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.
For Knight (A-Tier):
- Focus on Slorm Reapers combinations for maximum output.
- Core gear: Slorm Reapers
- Stat priority: Offensive stats first
For Huntress (A-Tier):
- Versatile approach that handles any situation.
- Core gear: Kah-Veer
- Stat priority: Balanced stats
Mechanic Interactions
Understanding how The Slormancer's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.
Slorm Reapers + Slorm spent on skill upgrades: Each class has roughly 120 reapers and each one carries a named effect a whole build can be shaped around, not just a weapon damage number. Combined with Slorm spent on skill upgrades, slorm is the currency you pour into individual upgrades inside each skill's own tree, and you can pull every point back out for free.
Ancestral Legacy tree + Rune sets from the Great Forge: The Ancestral Legacy is a shared web of more than 150 nodes covering Fire, Ice, Thunder, Light and Shadow, bought with Ancestral Stones earned from bosses. When paired with Rune sets from the Great Forge, runes come in three types you combine one of each from: 7 activation, 14 effect and 7 enhancement, one or two per reapersmith.
Legendary item effects scaling: Legendaries are locked to a specific gear slot and carry a named effect rather than better stats. Arcanic Pledge, the Knight gloves that fire a beam on critical hits, reaches a 90 to 102 percent proc rate at plus 13, which is why levelling one legendary beats spreading upgrades around.
Equipment Efficiency
| Equipment | Best Use Case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Slorm Reapers | Choosing your build identity before you commit gear upgrades | Your primary weapon slot and the single biggest build decision, with roughly 120 per class and a distinct effect on each. |
| Kah-Veer | Knight crit builds running Arcanic Pledge | The Knight reaper that anchors the arcane crit build, paired with Arcanic Pledge so that crits convert into beam damage. |
| Arcanic Pledge | Knight builds that can push critical chance high | Legendary gloves that fire a beam when you land a critical hit, reaching roughly full proc uptime at plus 13. |
| Rune sets | Adding a build defining trigger once the Great Forge is open | One Activation, one Effect and one Enhancement rune combine into a single custom effect, with 7, 14 and 7 options respectively. |
| Legendary gear | Committing hard to one effect and levelling it aggressively | Each legendary is bound to one slot and carries a named effect instead of larger numbers, so the slot decides the build rather than the stat roll. |
Location Efficiency
Campaign expeditions (Level 1 to campaign completion): Procedurally generated runs through seven environments where you meet elites and bosses and open Breaches for reaper drops. Expeditions are the most efficient early source of Goldus, Slorm and experience.
The Battlefield (Post campaign entry point): The first endgame activity after the campaign, and the gentlest of the three. It is where you gear check a build before committing to timed or wave based content.
The Slorm Temple (Endgame, scales by floor): A timed floor clearing challenge where speed decides how deep you get. Ultimatums unlock every ten floors, and Pure Slorm is the headline currency reward.
The Great Forge (Endgame, wave based scaling): Wave survival that ends in a loot chest, and the source of the rune system once you beat the Siege Leader. Reapersmith Spirits from here are what push runes toward level 15.
The Netherworld (Deep endgame, after Trial two): Opens after the second of Adam Nostrus's Trials and holds its own map with 45 Cataclysm runs and 25 Warlords to hunt. Clearing the Warlords is the road to the final fight against Ohm Agad.
Mistakes Even Veterans Make
- Hoarding Slorm instead of investing it, when every point refunds for free.
- Upgrading four legendaries at once so none reach a useful proc rate.
- Judging a freshly dropped reaper before it has levelled through a few expeditions.
- Ignoring the Ancestral Legacy and running a build with no elemental scaling.
- Skipping the loot filter and drowning in drops instead of converting them to currency.
Pro Quick Tips
- Swap between all three classes in town before you settle. Characters share the town and you lose nothing by testing the Knight, Huntress and Mage for an hour each rather than reading a tier list.
- Configure a loot filter in the first few hours. Hidden items auto convert into currency, which turns the endless drop stream into passive Goldus instead of forty inventory decisions per run.
- Every point of Slorm you invest in a skill upgrade can be withdrawn at no cost, and Ormos handles skill respeccing. Treat every build as a draft you revise between runs.
- Start with Huntress, switch to Knight when ready
- Invest in Slorm Reapers above everything else
- Clear areas in order: Campaign expeditions → The Battlefield → The Slorm Temple → The Great Forge → The Netherworld. See our maps guide
- Slorm Reapers + Slorm spent on skill upgrades together are stronger than either alone
