The campaign is just the warm-up before endgame builds and the brutal Summit tower.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (The White House)

Your base of operations and main settlement, where you upgrade skills, recalibrate gear, and accept missions.

Level/Difficulty: 1-30 Key Rewards: Recalibration station, skill unlocks, vendor access

What to Do in The White House

  1. Learn gear cores and attributes. Every gear piece rolls a major core attribute colored red for weapon damage, blue for armor, or yellow for skill tier, plus secondary attributes. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick Skill Build as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Pick a build direction early and match all your gear cores to it, red for damage or yellow for skills.
  4. Acquire your first weapons upgrade: Eagle Bearer or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand gear cores and attributes fundamentals
  • Skill Build selected and functional
  • The White House main content cleared
  • Ready for Downtown DC

Phase 2: Early Game (Downtown DC)

A dense urban war zone packed with control points, side missions, and faction patrols.

Level/Difficulty: 10-30 Key Rewards: Control point loot, projects, named enemies

What to Do in Downtown DC

  1. Work on skill builds. Skills like the Striker drone and Sticky Bomb scale with your skill tier, which climbs as you stack yellow attributes up to tier six. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Eagle Bearer if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. Use recalibration to transfer one great attribute from a junk drop onto your build piece.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to The Dark Zones.
  5. Consider whether Crit DPS might suit your playstyle better than Skill Build.

Phase 2 Checklist

  • skill builds integrated into gameplay
  • Eagle Bearer acquired
  • Downtown DC fully cleared
  • Ready for The Dark Zones

Phase 3: Mid Game (The Dark Zones)

Three contaminated PvPvE areas holding the best gear, extracted under threat of rogue agents.

Level/Difficulty: Endgame Key Rewards: Contaminated loot, exotic caches, rogue PvP

What to Do in The Dark Zones

  1. Master brand sets and gear sets. Wearing multiple pieces of the same brand grants escalating bonuses, and dedicated gear sets like Striker's offer powerful set effects. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Chatterbox. It's the best weapon and becomes accessible around now.
  3. Push skill tier to six on a skill build, the jump in skill damage and cooldowns is enormous.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in Dark Zones for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • brand sets and gear sets mastered
  • Chatterbox acquired or in progress
  • The Dark Zones fully cleared
  • Ready for Roosevelt Island

Phase 4: Late Game (Roosevelt Island)

A stronghold and recurring battleground tied to the Black Tusk faction late in the campaign.

Level/Difficulty: 30 Key Rewards: Stronghold gear, faction progression

What to Do in Roosevelt Island

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running Crit DPS or Skill Build with optimized gear.
  2. Chatterbox should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. Farm Heroic bounties and the Summit for targeted, high-quality loot instead of random world drops.
  4. SHD watch leveling optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into The Summit.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Chatterbox upgraded to max
  • Roosevelt Island fully cleared
  • Ready for The Summit

Phase 5: Endgame (The Summit)

A hundred-floor endgame tower of escalating enemy waves, the premier loot grind.

Level/Difficulty: Endgame Key Rewards: Targeted loot, exotic drops, build testing

What to Do in The Summit

  1. The Summit tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Optimize god-rolled gear at the workbench to squeeze attributes up to their maximum values.
  3. The endgame loop: run The Summit, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with Status Effect Build for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where SHD watch leveling mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • The Summit fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Wearing mismatched gear cores, which dilutes both your damage and survivability.
  • Ignoring recalibration and leaving good attributes stuck on gear you will not wear.
  • Trying a skill build without reaching skill tier six, where the build actually comes online.
  • Chasing random world loot instead of targeted farms like bounties and the Summit.
  • Hoarding Dark Zone loot until a rogue agent or NPC ambush wipes your whole bag.

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Pick a build direction early and match all your gear cores to it, red for damage or yellow for skills.
  2. Use recalibration to transfer one great attribute from a junk drop onto your build piece.
  3. Push skill tier to six on a skill build, the jump in skill damage and cooldowns is enormous.
  4. Farm Heroic bounties and the Summit for targeted, high-quality loot instead of random world drops.
  5. Optimize god-rolled gear at the workbench to squeeze attributes up to their maximum values.
