This Back 4 Blood tier list ranks every major option by overall effectiveness. Rankings factor in damage output, survivability, versatility, gear requirements, and how well each option scales.
Tier definitions: S = best in class, always a strong pick. A = strong and competitive, minor weaknesses. B = solid but clearly outperformed in most situations. C = viable only for players who enjoy the playstyle.

Weapons Rankings
| Weapon | Best With | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| AA12 | Shotgun decks running Rolling Thunder, and any Cleaner assigned to hold a chokepoint. | A fully automatic shotgun and the strongest close range answer in the game. |
| M249 | Holdout objectives and horde events, especially with a teammate covering specials. | A light machine gun with the magazine capacity to fight a full horde without a reload window. |
| Phoenix 350L | Marksman decks and any level where a Corruption Card has stacked extra specials. | A sniper rifle that kills most specials with a single weak point hit. |
| Ranch Rifle | Players who want precision damage without giving up close range viability. | A semi-automatic rifle with good accuracy and manageable recoil, which makes it the practical middle option between an assault rifle and a sniper. |
| Uzi | Second weapon slots under Two Is One and One Is None, and support players conserving heavy ammo. | A submachine gun with a high rate of fire and light SMG ammo that is rarely contested by the rest of the team. |

Weapons Analysis
AA12: A fully automatic shotgun and the strongest close range answer in the game. It clears a doorway of common Ridden in one burst and it stops a Tallboy that reached the team, at the cost of eating ammo faster than the safe room can refill it.
M249: A light machine gun with the magazine capacity to fight a full horde without a reload window. It is heavy and slow to aim, which makes it a horde weapon rather than a special-killing one.
Phoenix 350L: A sniper rifle that kills most specials with a single weak point hit. Paired with Ridden Slayer and Jim's weak spot bonus it removes a Hag or a Snitch before either becomes a problem for the team.
Ranch Rifle: A semi-automatic rifle with good accuracy and manageable recoil, which makes it the practical middle option between an assault rifle and a sniper. It is generous with ammo, so it holds up on levels that punish overspending.
Uzi: A submachine gun with a high rate of fire and light SMG ammo that is rarely contested by the rest of the team. Weak per shot, so it works as a secondary alongside a sniper rather than as a primary on Nightmare.
Meta Analysis
The current meta in Back 4 Blood centers on Fifteen card decks and Corruption Cards. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one. Our combat guide explains these interactions in depth.
What's strong right now:
- Walker with AA12 is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
- Trauma damage builds are gaining ground as players find new combinations.
- Doc remains essential for learning hard content. See the boss guide.
What's underrated:
- Holly is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
- Phoenix 350L offers excellent performance for its investment level.
What's overhyped:
- Pure Jim builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
Quick Picks by Situation
