Back 4 Blood is Turtle Rock's four player co-op shooter about eight Cleaners holding out against the Ridden from a base called Fort Hope. The campaign runs 33 missions across four Acts and ten chapters, and the part that separates it from the studio's earlier work is the card layer: you bring a 15 card deck, draw one card between levels, and the game's Director answers with Corruption Cards that change the level you are about to play. Difficulty runs Recruit, Veteran, Nightmare and No Hope, and by Nightmare a deck that does not match your role is the reason runs end.

Your choice of weapons defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.

S-Tier: AA12

A fully automatic shotgun and the strongest close range answer in the game. It clears a doorway of common Ridden in one burst and it stops a Tallboy that reached the team, at the cost of eating ammo faster than the safe room can refill it.

Weapons Progression Path

The order you should acquire weapons as you progress:

  1. Starting gear → Enough to clear Fort Hope
  2. M249 → Your first real upgrade, available early
  3. Phoenix 350L → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
  4. AA12 → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
  5. Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous

Weapons Tips

  • Always upgrade your primary weapon before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
  • Match your weapons to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
  • Deck order matters more than deck contents because cards are drawn in the order you set, never shuffled. Put Combat Knife, Cross Trainers or whatever fixes your biggest weakness in the first three slots, since a card at position 14 arrives in Act 3 at best.
  • Check our tier list for how weapons rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
