Youthcat Studio put Dyson Sphere Program into Early Access on 21 January 2021 and shipped version 1.0 on 15 December 2023 alongside Rise of the Dark Fog, the free update that added combat. You play Icarus, a mecha dropped on a Mediterranean starting planet with instructions to encase a star in solar sails and shell frames. The scale runs from hand-placing a single Mining Machine to routing Logistics Vessels between star systems light years apart.
Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mining Machine | S | Every raw resource on every planet from the first minute | Covers a patch of ore veins and pulls from all of them at once, so placement over a dense vein cluster matters more than the number of miners you build. |
| Arc Smelter | A | All early and mid game smelting rows | The base smelting building for iron, copper, stone and silicon. |
| Assembling Machine Mk.III | A | Dense production blocks where floor space is tight | The fastest ground assembler, worth retrofitting into existing blocks because a single Mk. |
| Conveyor Belt Mk.III | B | Main bus lines and any belt that runs visibly full | The highest throughput belt in the game and the one that removes most bottlenecks in older builds. |
| Interstellar Logistics Station | B | Importing titanium, silicon and rare ores from other worlds | Dispatches Logistics Vessels between planets and star systems, and it is the single building that changes the shape of the game. |
S-Tier: Mining Machine
Covers a patch of ore veins and pulls from all of them at once, so placement over a dense vein cluster matters more than the number of miners you build.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Tier | S |
| Best For | Every raw resource on every planet from the first minute |
| Key Mechanic | Six research matrices |
| Recommended Build | Smelting lines |
How to get it: Available from mid-game onward. See our walkthrough for the exact progression point.
Best builds using Mining Machine: Pairs naturally with Smelting lines thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
A-Tier: Arc Smelter
The base smelting building for iron, copper, stone and silicon. The Plane Smelter that replaces it later needs Unipolar Magnets from a neutron star, so Arc Smelters carry most of the campaign.

|---|---|
| Tier | A |
| Best For | All early and mid game smelting rows |
| Key Mechanic | Interstellar logistics stations |
| Recommended Build | Chemical refining |
How to get it: Accessible in the early-to-mid game. Check our maps guide for the location.
Best builds using Arc Smelter: Pairs naturally with Chemical refining thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
A-Tier: Assembling Machine Mk.III
The fastest ground assembler, worth retrofitting into existing blocks because a single Mk.III replaces multiple Mk.I units and shortens every belt run around it.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Tier | A |
| Best For | Dense production blocks where floor space is tight |
| Key Mechanic | Proliferator spray on inputs |
| Recommended Build | Component assembly |
How to get it: Accessible in the early-to-mid game. Check our maps guide for the location.
Best builds using Assembling Machine Mk.III: Pairs naturally with Component assembly thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
B-Tier: Conveyor Belt Mk.III
The highest throughput belt in the game and the one that removes most bottlenecks in older builds. Upgrading a saturated Mk.I line to Mk.III often triples what an unchanged factory produces.

|---|---|
| Tier | B |
| Best For | Main bus lines and any belt that runs visibly full |
| Key Mechanic | Dyson Swarm sails and sphere shells |
| Recommended Build | Matrix research |
How to get it: Found in later areas. Our walkthrough covers when you can access this.
Best builds using Conveyor Belt Mk.III: Pairs naturally with Matrix research thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
B-Tier: Interstellar Logistics Station
Dispatches Logistics Vessels between planets and star systems, and it is the single building that changes the shape of the game. Once it is up, resources stop being local.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Tier | B |
| Best For | Importing titanium, silicon and rare ores from other worlds |
| Key Mechanic | Dark Fog raids and turret coverage |
| Recommended Build | Power generation |
How to get it: Found in later areas. Our walkthrough covers when you can access this.
Best builds using Interstellar Logistics Station: Pairs naturally with Power generation thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
Equipment Progression Path
The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear Mediterranean planet
- Arc Smelter → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Assembling Machine Mk.III → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Mining Machine → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Equipment Tips
- Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Leave a two or three tile gap between production rows from the very first factory. Retrofitting Assembling Machine Mk.III and Conveyor Belt Mk.III into a build with no spare tiles means demolishing the whole block instead of upgrading it in place.
- Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
