Hell Let Loose puts 100 players into 50 versus 50 WWII combined arms battles modelled on real European and North African battlefields. A Warfare match runs 90 minutes over five strongpoints, and no side wins it without garrisons, supply trucks and somebody willing to command. Twenty maps are in rotation as of mid 2026, from Omaha Beach to Stalingrad.
These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.
Essential Tips
1. Garrisons cost 50 supplies in friendly territory and 100 in enemy territory
Garrisons cost 50 supplies in friendly territory and 100 in enemy territory. Build the cheap ones behind your line and only pay double when a forward garrison genuinely opens a push.
2. A garrison locks out entirely when an enemy is within 15 metres and shows a red ping from 50 metres
A garrison locks out entirely when an enemy is within 15 metres and shows a red ping from 50 metres. If your spawn suddenly goes dark, somebody is standing on it.
3. Only the 2 to 5 players in the placing squad can spawn on an outpost, but outposts cost nothing
Only the 2 to 5 players in the placing squad can spawn on an outpost, but outposts cost nothing. Use outposts for squad tempo and garrisons for team tempo.
4. The Commander can airdrop 100 supplies anywhere on the map for 50 munitions on a two minute cooldown
The Commander can airdrop 100 supplies anywhere on the map for 50 munitions on a two minute cooldown. If you are an Officer with no supply truck nearby, ask before you start walking.
5. The Support role carries a 50 supply box on a five minute cooldown
The Support role carries a 50 supply box on a five minute cooldown. One Support in every infantry squad means the squad can build its own garrison without waiting on logistics.
6. Each team starts with 500 of every resource and passively earns 30 per minute
Each team starts with 500 of every resource and passively earns 30 per minute. Engineer built nodes and captured sectors are the only way to raise that, and a team without nodes runs dry in the second half.
7. Garrison redeploy runs on a 40 second cycle
Garrison redeploy runs on a 40 second cycle. Timing a squad wide spawn together hits far harder than trickling in one player at a time.
8. Proximity voice carries a realistically short distance and squad radio is separate
Proximity voice carries a realistically short distance and squad radio is separate. Say what you see, where it is and which direction it is moving, because there is no killcam to fill the gaps.
9. Strongpoints must be captured in consecutive order
Strongpoints must be captured in consecutive order. Attacking a point out of sequence accomplishes nothing, and it is the single most common misunderstanding among new players.
10. Tanks die to flanks rather than frontal duels
Tanks die to flanks rather than frontal duels. A Tank Commander fighting hull down with infantry screening the sides will outlive a better gunner who pushes alone.
Advanced Strategies
Role Optimization
The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.
For Officer (S-Tier):
- Squad leader role that places outposts and garrisons, carrying the squad's entire spawn logic on its back.
- Core gear: Binoculars, watch for building, service rifle, smoke grenades
- Stat priority: Communication then map reading then placement discipline
For Rifleman (A-Tier):
- The uncapped infantry role, the only one always available, carrying the most spare ammunition of any line slot.
- Core gear: M1 Garand, Kar98k or Mosin depending on faction, grenades
- Stat priority: Positioning then aim then ammunition discipline
Mechanic Interactions
Understanding how Hell Let Loose's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.
Five strongpoint tug of war + Garrisons and outposts as spawns: Warfare gives each side the two strongpoints nearest its HQ and leaves the middle neutral. Combined with Garrisons and outposts as spawns, garrisons are team wide spawn points costing 50 supplies in friendly territory and 100 in enemy territory.
Manpower, munitions and fuel + Fourteen roles across four categories: Each team starts with 500 of every resource and generates 30 of each per minute with no nodes built. When paired with Fourteen roles across four categories, fourteen roles split across command, infantry, armor and recon, from commander and officer down to crewman, sniper and spotter.
Commander tactical abilities scaling: The Commander spends resources from the tactical map, including a 100 supply airdrop that costs 50 munitions on a two minute cooldown, and a remote garrison dismantle costing 100 manpower on a ten minute cooldown.
Weapons Efficiency
| Weapon | Best Use Case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| M1 Garand | Mid range infantry fighting as a US Rifleman | The US Army's standard semi automatic rifle, eight rounds per clip, with strong stopping power and heavy recoil between shots. |
| Thompson M1A1 | Clearing houses in Carentan or Foy as an Assault | American submachine gun with a high rate of fire and a short effective range that punishes anyone who takes it into the open. |
| Karabiner 98k | German Riflemen holding long open lanes | German bolt action rifle, slow to cycle but lethal at range, killing in a single hit across most of its effective envelope. |
| MG42 | Locking a bridge approach or a street against infantry pushes | The German general purpose machine gun with an extreme rate of fire, only accurate when deployed on its bipod or a mount. |
| PPSh-41 | Soviet close quarters fighting through Stalingrad's rubble | Soviet submachine gun available in box and drum magazine versions, with the drum favoured for sustained close range fire. |
Location Efficiency
Foy (Warfare and Offensive): Snow covered Ardennes map from the fighting around Bastogne, with the town in the middle and open fields on both flanks.
Omaha Beach (Offensive focused): The D-Day landing map, where one side crosses open sand into bunkers dug along the bluffs above.
Carentan (Warfare and Offensive): Norman town and hedgerow map where the fight collapses into street to street work within minutes.
Stalingrad (Warfare and Offensive): Eastern Front urban ruin map with the Red Army and Wehrmacht grinding through rubble and factory blocks.
Kursk (Warfare): Wide open Soviet steppe built on the largest armour battle of the war, with very little cover for infantry anywhere.
Mistakes Even Veterans Make
- Running off alone from the squad leader. Outside the radius you lose the spawn logic and the squad loses a rifle.
- Bleeding out instead of waiting for a medic. Calling your position and holding still gets you back into the same fight.
- Building garrisons on the objective itself, where they lock out the moment an enemy comes within 15 metres.
- Taking a specialist role with no intention of using it. An Engineer who never builds a node is worth less than another Rifleman.
- Ignoring the supply truck. Logistics is unglamorous and it is the only reason your team has forward spawns at all.
Pro Quick Tips
- Garrisons cost 50 supplies in friendly territory and 100 in enemy territory. Build the cheap ones behind your line and only pay double when a forward garrison genuinely opens a push.
- A garrison locks out entirely when an enemy is within 15 metres and shows a red ping from 50 metres. If your spawn suddenly goes dark, somebody is standing on it.
- Only the 2 to 5 players in the placing squad can spawn on an outpost, but outposts cost nothing. Use outposts for squad tempo and garrisons for team tempo.
- Start with Rifleman, switch to Officer when ready
- Invest in M1 Garand above everything else
- Clear areas in order: Foy → Omaha Beach → Carentan → Stalingrad → Kursk. See our maps guide
- Five strongpoint tug of war + Garrisons and outposts as spawns together are stronger than either alone
