NBA 2K23 shipped on 9 September 2022, came off sale on 30 November 2024, and lost its online servers on 31 December 2024. MyCAREER and MyTEAM went dark with those servers; 2K's sunset notice lists Play Now, MyNBA, and The W as what still runs for owners who already have it installed. The PC build is the current-gen version, so its neighborhood was the G.O.A.T. Boat rather than the PlayStation 5 City, and this page treats every online mode as dead rather than pretending otherwise.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (Play Now)

Fully offline exhibition play with custom sliders and rosters. Named by 2K as still playable after the sunset, which makes it the safest mode to plan around.

Level/Difficulty: Any skill level, offline Key Rewards: Slider profiles, roster experimentation, no online dependency

What to Do in Play Now

  1. Learn Adrenaline Boosts. Three bars sit under the stamina bar and reset each possession, and an explosive sprint launch or hard dribble move burns one. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick Three-and-D wing as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Before anything else, understand what you own: 2K pulled NBA 2K23 from sale on 30 November 2024 and shut its servers on 31 December 2024, so MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and every online mode are gone permanently.
  4. Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Pro Stick shot aiming or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand Adrenaline Boosts fundamentals
  • Three-and-D wing selected and functional
  • Play Now main content cleared
  • Ready for MyNBA

Phase 2: Early Game (MyNBA)

The franchise mode and the deepest surviving option, still playable offline. Note that MyNBA Eras, the era-based franchise start, was a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S feature and is not in the PC build.

Level/Difficulty: Multi-season, offline Key Rewards: Full franchise control, draft classes, staff and scouting systems

What to Do in MyNBA

  1. Work on Signature jump shot attributes. Every signature jump shot animation carries four ratings: Shot Speed, Release Height, Defensive Immunity, and Timing Impact. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Pro Stick shot aiming if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. If you want a 2K basketball game with a career mode that works, the surviving option here is The W offline. MyCAREER progress, VC, and MyTEAM cards from 2K23 cannot be recovered or transferred.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to The W.
  5. Consider whether Playmaking guard might suit your playstyle better than Three-and-D wing.

Phase 2 Checklist

  • Signature jump shot attributes integrated into gameplay
  • Pro Stick shot aiming acquired
  • MyNBA fully cleared
  • Ready for The W

Phase 3: Mid Game (The W)

The WNBA career mode, listed by 2K among the modes that remain playable offline. The W Online is gone, so treat this as a single-player career only.

Level/Difficulty: Career mode, offline Key Rewards: Badge progression, WNBA roster play, offline career arc

What to Do in The W

  1. Master Badge points and badge levels. On PC and the other current-gen platforms, badges run Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Hall of Fame, bought with badge points and gated behind attribute thresholds you set in the builder. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Signature jump shot. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
  3. The PC version is the current-gen build. Guides written for the PlayStation 5 City, the three-tier badge system, or MyNBA Eras are describing a version you do not have.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in Jordan Challenge scenarios for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • Badge points and badge levels mastered
  • Signature jump shot acquired or in progress
  • The W fully cleared
  • Ready for Jordan Challenge

Phase 4: Late Game (Jordan Challenge)

Fifteen recreated Jordan games from 1982 to 1998 with period presentation. On current-gen it was entered through the G.O.A.T. Boat promenade, and 2K's sunset notice does not list it among the surviving modes, so verify it loads on your install before counting on it.

Level/Difficulty: 15 scenarios, availability uncertain post-sunset Key Rewards: Scenario completion, cosmetic unlocks that were tied to MyCAREER

What to Do in Jordan Challenge

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running Playmaking guard or Three-and-D wing with optimized gear.
  2. Signature jump shot should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. Adrenaline Boosts reset each possession, so a wasted boost is only wasted for that trip down the floor. Save at least one for the drive rather than burning all three on perimeter dribbling.
  4. Offline-only mode list after the 2024 sunset optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into The G.O.A.T. Boat.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Signature jump shot upgraded to max
  • Jordan Challenge fully cleared
  • Ready for The G.O.A.T. Boat

Phase 5: Endgame (The G.O.A.T. Boat)

Dead since 31 December 2024. This was the current-gen neighborhood, a three-deck ship whose Silver Deck promenade held the REC Lounge, the Cages, MyTEAM, the NBA Store, and Jordan Challenge access. It replaced NBA 2K22's Cancha Del Mar and required a server connection.

Level/Difficulty: Offline since the 2024 server sunset Key Rewards: None. MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and every quest reward here are unreachable

What to Do in The G.O.A.T. Boat

  1. The G.O.A.T. Boat tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Pick your signature jump shot by its four attributes rather than by how it looks. High Timing Impact means bad timing hurts you less, which is the right trade for most offline players.
  3. The endgame loop: run The G.O.A.T. Boat, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with Paint-protecting center for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where Offline-only mode list after the 2024 sunset mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • The G.O.A.T. Boat fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Buying or following a MyCAREER build guide for a mode that no longer loads
  • Assuming PC has The City, MyNBA Eras, or the three-tier badge system from the console versions
  • Burning all three Adrenaline Boosts on dribble moves before reaching the paint
  • Choosing a signature jump shot for its animation instead of its Timing Impact rating
  • Expecting MyTEAM cards or VC purchases to carry into NBA 2K24 or NBA 2K25

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Before anything else, understand what you own: 2K pulled NBA 2K23 from sale on 30 November 2024 and shut its servers on 31 December 2024, so MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and every online mode are gone permanently.
  2. If you want a 2K basketball game with a career mode that works, the surviving option here is The W offline. MyCAREER progress, VC, and MyTEAM cards from 2K23 cannot be recovered or transferred.
  3. The PC version is the current-gen build. Guides written for the PlayStation 5 City, the three-tier badge system, or MyNBA Eras are describing a version you do not have.
  4. Adrenaline Boosts reset each possession, so a wasted boost is only wasted for that trip down the floor. Save at least one for the drive rather than burning all three on perimeter dribbling.
  5. Pick your signature jump shot by its four attributes rather than by how it looks. High Timing Impact means bad timing hurts you less, which is the right trade for most offline players.
