Visual Concepts put NBA 2K24 on Steam on 7 September 2023 with Kobe Bryant on the standard cover and ProPLAY, which converts real NBA broadcast footage into animations, in its first year. The PC release is the previous generation build, so it runs The Neighborhood rather than The City, and NBA 2K25 was the first PC entry to match the current generation console version. 2K shut the multiplayer servers down on 31 December 2025, which took MyCAREER, MyTEAM and every online mode with them.
NBA 2K24 features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Neighborhood | Offline since 1 January 2026 | Pickup 3v3, badge progression, cosmetic shops | Two-Way Slashing Playmaker |
| 2 | MyTEAM | Offline since 1 January 2026 | Player cards, auction house, salary cap events | Two-Way Slashing Playmaker |
| 3 | Play Now | Any skill level, still playable | Full NBA rosters, no VC requirement, instant games | Paint Beast |
| 4 | MyNBA | Any skill level, still playable | Multi season franchise control, draft classes, staff management | Paint Beast |
| 5 | Mamba Moments | Status unconfirmed after the shutdown | Kobe career scenarios, period accurate presentation | Paint Beast |
The Neighborhood: Starting Area
The previous generation MyCAREER hub that the PC version shipped with instead of The City. It held pickup courts, the practice facility and the shops, and it required a server connection to enter.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Offline since 1 January 2026 |
| Key Rewards | Pickup 3v3, badge progression, cosmetic shops |
| Recommended Role | Two-Way Slashing Playmaker |
| Key Equipment | Float Game |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of ProPLAY animation conversion. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to MyTEAM.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
MyTEAM: Early Game
The card collecting mode, which NBA 2K24 pushed hardest and which drew the sharpest criticism for its market changes. Roster management, auctions and every game type inside it ran through 2K's servers.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Offline since 1 January 2026 |
| Key Rewards | Player cards, auction house, salary cap events |
| Recommended Role | Two-Way Slashing Playmaker |
| Key Equipment | Float Game |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Badge tiers and badge points. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Float Game if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Play Now.
Play Now: Mid Game
Straight exhibition basketball with real NBA rosters and no progression attached. 2K named it as one of the modes that keeps working after the shutdown, which makes it the main reason to still install the game.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Any skill level, still playable |
| Key Rewards | Full NBA rosters, no VC requirement, instant games |
| Recommended Role | Paint Beast |
| Key Equipment | Float Game |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Claymore becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Usage driven badge levelling for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
MyNBA: Late Game
The franchise mode, where you run a team across seasons with trades, drafts and staff. It runs offline on PC, but the Eras start points that let you begin in the Magic and Bird or Jordan seasons were a current generation console feature.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Any skill level, still playable |
| Key Rewards | Multi season franchise control, draft classes, staff management |
| Recommended Role | Paint Beast |
| Key Equipment | Claymore |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Claymore should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Server dependent progression mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Mamba Moments.
Mamba Moments: Endgame
Kobe Bryant career recreations that replaced the Jordan Challenge, listed on the PC store page as one of the headline modes. 2K's shutdown notice did not name it among the surviving offline modes, so verify it before buying for that alone.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Status unconfirmed after the shutdown |
| Key Rewards | Kobe career scenarios, period accurate presentation |
| Recommended Role | Paint Beast |
| Key Equipment | Claymore |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Facilitating Point Guard for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: The Neighborhood → MyTEAM → Play Now → MyNBA → Mamba Moments. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
