Visual Concepts put NBA 2K24 on Steam on 7 September 2023 with Kobe Bryant on the standard cover and ProPLAY, which converts real NBA broadcast footage into animations, in its first year. The PC release is the previous generation build, so it runs The Neighborhood rather than The City, and NBA 2K25 was the first PC entry to match the current generation console version. 2K shut the multiplayer servers down on 31 December 2025, which took MyCAREER, MyTEAM and every online mode with them.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (The Neighborhood)
The previous generation MyCAREER hub that the PC version shipped with instead of The City. It held pickup courts, the practice facility and the shops, and it required a server connection to enter.
Level/Difficulty: Offline since 1 January 2026 Key Rewards: Pickup 3v3, badge progression, cosmetic shops
What to Do in The Neighborhood
- Learn ProPLAY animation conversion. ProPLAY converts real NBA broadcast footage into playable animations instead of relying only on studio motion capture. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Two-Way Slashing Playmaker as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
- Verify what you are buying before you spend anything. NBA 2K24 was pulled from sale on 30 October 2025 and its servers closed on 31 December 2025, so any key you find on a reseller gives you Play Now and MyNBA rather than the modes the marketing was built around.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Float Game or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand ProPLAY animation conversion fundamentals
- Two-Way Slashing Playmaker selected and functional
- The Neighborhood main content cleared
- Ready for MyTEAM
Phase 2: Early Game (MyTEAM)
The card collecting mode, which NBA 2K24 pushed hardest and which drew the sharpest criticism for its market changes. Roster management, auctions and every game type inside it ran through 2K's servers.
Level/Difficulty: Offline since 1 January 2026 Key Rewards: Player cards, auction house, salary cap events
What to Do in MyTEAM
- Work on Badge tiers and badge points. Badges sit in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 groups and cost badge points to equip. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Float Game if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- The PC build is the previous generation version, which is why it has The Neighborhood and not The City. If you specifically want The City, MyNBA Eras or The W on PC, NBA 2K25 was the first release to bring the current generation build to Steam.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Play Now.
- Consider whether Paint Beast might suit your playstyle better than Two-Way Slashing Playmaker.
Phase 2 Checklist
- Badge tiers and badge points integrated into gameplay
- Float Game acquired
- MyTEAM fully cleared
- Ready for Play Now
Phase 3: Mid Game (Play Now)
Straight exhibition basketball with real NBA rosters and no progression attached. 2K named it as one of the modes that keeps working after the shutdown, which makes it the main reason to still install the game.
Level/Difficulty: Any skill level, still playable Key Rewards: Full NBA rosters, no VC requirement, instant games
What to Do in Play Now
- Master Usage driven badge levelling. A badge unlocks at Bronze automatically once your attributes cross its requirement, then climbs by actually being triggered in games and in the practice facility. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Claymore. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Budget 150 GB of drive space. That is what the Steam page asks for, and it is a lot to give up for a sports title whose online half no longer connects.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Mamba Moments challenges for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- Usage driven badge levelling mastered
- Claymore acquired or in progress
- Play Now fully cleared
- Ready for MyNBA
Phase 4: Late Game (MyNBA)
The franchise mode, where you run a team across seasons with trades, drafts and staff. It runs offline on PC, but the Eras start points that let you begin in the Magic and Bird or Jordan seasons were a current generation console feature.
Level/Difficulty: Any skill level, still playable Key Rewards: Multi season franchise control, draft classes, staff management
What to Do in MyNBA
- Finalize your build. You should be running Paint Beast or Two-Way Slashing Playmaker with optimized gear.
- Claymore should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Badges level from actions you actually perform, not from time spent in the mode. A build with Hall of Fame potential on Claymore stays Bronze until you take enough stationary catch and shoot attempts to prove it.
- Server dependent progression optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Mamba Moments.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Claymore upgraded to max
- MyNBA fully cleared
- Ready for Mamba Moments
Phase 5: Endgame (Mamba Moments)
Kobe Bryant career recreations that replaced the Jordan Challenge, listed on the PC store page as one of the headline modes. 2K's shutdown notice did not name it among the surviving offline modes, so verify it before buying for that alone.
Level/Difficulty: Status unconfirmed after the shutdown Key Rewards: Kobe career scenarios, period accurate presentation
What to Do in Mamba Moments
- Mamba Moments tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Badge points are a budget, not a checklist. One Hall of Fame Tier 3 badge costs 8 points against 1 for a Bronze Tier 1, so decide whether your build wants one skill that is elite or four that are merely competent.
- The endgame loop: run Mamba Moments, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Facilitating Point Guard for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where Server dependent progression mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Mamba Moments fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Buying NBA 2K24 in 2026 expecting MyCAREER or MyTEAM to work. Both need 2K servers that closed on 31 December 2025.
- Assuming the PC version matches PlayStation 5 footage you have seen. PC shipped the previous generation build with The Neighborhood, so The City, MyNBA Eras and The W were never on it.
- Spreading badge points evenly across every category, which produces a build with nothing above Silver and no reason to trust it in a close game.
- Building a Stretch Big without a rim protector alongside you. Pulling your own centre away from the basket hands the opponent the paint.
- Grinding Virtual Currency purchases late in the game's life. VC stopped being earnable at the shutdown, and anything bought after October 2025 was money spent on a countdown.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Verify what you are buying before you spend anything. NBA 2K24 was pulled from sale on 30 October 2025 and its servers closed on 31 December 2025, so any key you find on a reseller gives you Play Now and MyNBA rather than the modes the marketing was built around.
