2K released PGA TOUR 2K25 on 28 February 2025 with Tiger Woods, Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick sharing the cover. The headline change is EvoSwing, which grades every shot on four separate components rather than one meter reading: Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path. It ships with 27 licensed courses, and MyCAREER lets you play major championships for the first time in the series.
This guide covers everything you need: core mechanics, the best builds, equipment worth investing in, location progression, and the tips that actually make a difference.
Core Mechanics
EvoSwing four-part shot grading
Each swing is scored on Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path, so a shot can be pure on tempo and still leak right because the path was off. Reading which of the four failed is the whole skill curve, because the fix for bad Rhythm is nothing like the fix for a bad Swing Path.
MyPLAYER archetypes
You pick from Powerhouse, Technician, Magician, Greenskeeper and Sculptor, and the choice sets which attributes cap high and which stay low. Powerhouse trades short-game accuracy for distance, while Greenskeeper does roughly the opposite, so the archetype decides which courses suit you.
MyCAREER major championships
Career play now runs through majors as well as regular tour stops, including the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club and The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club. Interviews and customisation options between rounds carry your MyPLAYER's personality through the season.
Course Designer and community courses
The designer lets you build and publish full courses, and downloading other players' work extends the 27 licensed courses by a large margin. Community courses are where most people find the wildly long and wildly short layouts that the licensed set does not include.
Societies and online play
Societies are player-run tours with their own schedules, rules and standings, which is how the game handles long-term online competition. They are the main reason people keep playing months after the career mode is finished.

Equipment Guide
| Equipment | Why It Matters | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Driver | The club that most exposes EvoSwing's Swing Path component, because errors that barely show with a wedge become 30 yards offline off the tee. | Reachable par 5s and wide fairways where distance is worth the accuracy risk |
| 3-Wood | The tee club for tight holes and the second-shot club for long par 5s. | Narrow driving holes and going for par 5 greens from the fairway |
| 7-Iron | The reference club for learning your yardages, because it sits in the middle of the set and its distance changes predictably with elevation and wind. | Mid-length par 4 approaches and long par 3s |
| 56-degree Wedge | The sand wedge that handles bunker escapes and most greenside chips. | Bunker shots, greenside chips and full shots inside 100 yards |
| Putter | Where rounds are actually won, especially on the fast green speeds used for tournament settings. | Every hole, and the single highest-value thing to practise before starting MyCAREER |
Driver: The club that most exposes EvoSwing's Swing Path component, because errors that barely show with a wedge become 30 yards offline off the tee. Powerhouse builds live and die by it.
3-Wood: The tee club for tight holes and the second-shot club for long par 5s. It gives up meaningful distance against the driver in exchange for a much smaller miss.
7-Iron: The reference club for learning your yardages, because it sits in the middle of the set and its distance changes predictably with elevation and wind. Dial this one in and the rest of the irons follow.
56-degree Wedge: The sand wedge that handles bunker escapes and most greenside chips. Greenskeeper builds get the most from it because it is where their attribute ceiling actually pays off.
Putter: Where rounds are actually won, especially on the fast green speeds used for tournament settings. Green reading matters more than any equipment choice here.

Location Progression
| Location | Level Range | Key Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass | Par 72, playable from beginner to Legend difficulty | The best course to learn wind reading on, because the island green gives instant feedback on a bad read |
| Oakmont Country Club | Par 70, best attempted after several full rounds elsewhere | The course that forces you to learn green speed and lay-up discipline |
| Quail Hollow Club | Par 71, a long test that suits accuracy builds | A genuine finishing stretch that decides career-mode rounds in the last three holes |
| Royal Portrush Golf Club | Par 71, links conditions with heavy wind influence | The best course for learning to play low into wind rather than fighting it |
| The Old Course at St Andrews | Par 72, arrived post-launch in Season 2 | The most historically famous layout in the game and the friendliest links course to score on |
THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass: The flagship licensed course and the one most players start on. The par 3 17th to the island green is the most famous shot in the game, and it punishes any Contact error on a short wedge.
Oakmont Country Club: Host of the 2025 U.S. Open and the hardest test in the licensed set, with the Church Pews bunker sitting between the 3rd and 4th holes. Greens are brutally fast and missing on the wrong side leaves no recovery.
Quail Hollow Club: Host of the 2025 PGA Championship, ending with the stretch of holes 16 through 18 known as the Green Mile. Long and tight at the same time, which is why Technician builds outperform Powerhouse builds here.
Royal Portrush Golf Club: Host of The 153rd Open and the links test in the licensed set, where wind changes club selection more than yardage does. The par 3 16th, Calamity Corner, plays long across a ravine.
The Old Course at St Andrews: Added in Season 2 shortly after launch, with the Swilcan Bridge, the Road Hole 17th and the enormous Hell Bunker on the 14th. Wide fairways with shared greens make it look easy until the wind turns.

Tips That Actually Matter
- Read which EvoSwing component failed rather than just seeing the shot go offline. Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path each break differently, and slowing your backswing does nothing for a path error.
- Spend your first hour on the putting green with tournament green speeds turned on. Putting is the largest single source of strokes gained in a career round, and the practice transfers to every course in the game.
- Pick your archetype for the courses you actually want to play. Powerhouse struggles on Quail Hollow's tight corridors, while Greenskeeper struggles anywhere you cannot reach the green in regulation.
- Check the wind at the flag rather than at the tee. Elevation changes between tee and green on courses like Oakmont mean the wind you see standing over the ball is not the wind the ball will fly through.
- Learn one club's yardage precisely, ideally the 7-iron, then scale everything from it. Guessing every club separately is slower than knowing one reference number cold.
- On the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, aim at the centre of the island green rather than the pin. A safe 25-foot putt is a better outcome than any pin-seeking shot that finds water.
- Use the Course Designer community listings to practise a specific weakness. If you keep leaking approach shots right, a downloaded course of tight right-side hazards trains it faster than replaying Sawgrass.
- Join a Society before you finish MyCAREER rather than after. Society schedules run on real-world timetables, so joining early means you are already in a standings position when career play winds down.
- Lay up when the yardage does not match a club you trust. Leaving yourself a full 56-degree wedge is a far better outcome than a half-swing you have never rehearsed.
- Play Oakmont only after you are comfortable elsewhere. Its par 70 layout with those green speeds will teach you bad habits if it is your first serious course, because everything feels like a mistake.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Blaming tempo for every bad shot when the EvoSwing readout is actually flagging Swing Path.
- Choosing Powerhouse for the highlight-reel drives and then losing strokes on every greenside chip.
- Firing at tucked pins on fast greens instead of playing to the fat side and taking two putts.
- Reading wind from the tee box on elevation-change holes and coming up short every time.
- Skipping putting practice and then wondering why career rounds sit three or four strokes above target.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is EvoSwing and how is it different?
It grades each swing on four separate components, Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path, instead of a single accuracy reading. That means the game tells you which part of the swing failed rather than just showing you the result.
How many courses does the game have?
27 licensed courses at launch, including THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Oakmont Country Club, Quail Hollow Club and Royal Portrush Golf Club, with The Old Course at St Andrews arriving in Season 2. The Course Designer and community uploads add many more.
Which archetype should a new player pick?
Sculptor. It spreads attributes evenly with no severe weakness, which means no course punishes it badly while you are still learning EvoSwing.
Who is on the cover?
Tiger Woods, Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick share the PGA TOUR 2K25 cover.
Can you play majors in MyCAREER?
Yes, for the first time in the series. Career play includes the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club and The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club.
