2K released PGA TOUR 2K25 on 28 February 2025 with Tiger Woods, Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick sharing the cover. The headline change is EvoSwing, which grades every shot on four separate components rather than one meter reading: Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path. It ships with 27 licensed courses, and MyCAREER lets you play major championships for the first time in the series.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass)
The flagship licensed course and the one most players start on. The par 3 17th to the island green is the most famous shot in the game, and it punishes any Contact error on a short wedge.
Level/Difficulty: Par 72, playable from beginner to Legend difficulty Key Rewards: The best course to learn wind reading on, because the island green gives instant feedback on a bad read
What to Do in THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass
- Learn EvoSwing four-part shot grading. Each swing is scored on Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path, so a shot can be pure on tempo and still leak right because the path was off. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Technician as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
- Read which EvoSwing component failed rather than just seeing the shot go offline. Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path each break differently, and slowing your backswing does nothing for a path error.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: 3-Wood or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand EvoSwing four-part shot grading fundamentals
- Technician selected and functional
- THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass main content cleared
- Ready for Oakmont Country Club
Phase 2: Early Game (Oakmont Country Club)
Host of the 2025 U.S. Open and the hardest test in the licensed set, with the Church Pews bunker sitting between the 3rd and 4th holes. Greens are brutally fast and missing on the wrong side leaves no recovery.
Level/Difficulty: Par 70, best attempted after several full rounds elsewhere Key Rewards: The course that forces you to learn green speed and lay-up discipline
What to Do in Oakmont Country Club
- Work on MyPLAYER archetypes. You pick from Powerhouse, Technician, Magician, Greenskeeper and Sculptor, and the choice sets which attributes cap high and which stay low. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for 3-Wood if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Spend your first hour on the putting green with tournament green speeds turned on. Putting is the largest single source of strokes gained in a career round, and the practice transfers to every course in the game.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Quail Hollow Club.
- Consider whether Powerhouse might suit your playstyle better than Technician.
Phase 2 Checklist
- MyPLAYER archetypes integrated into gameplay
- 3-Wood acquired
- Oakmont Country Club fully cleared
- Ready for Quail Hollow Club
Phase 3: Mid Game (Quail Hollow Club)
Host of the 2025 PGA Championship, ending with the stretch of holes 16 through 18 known as the Green Mile. Long and tight at the same time, which is why Technician builds outperform Powerhouse builds here.
Level/Difficulty: Par 71, a long test that suits accuracy builds Key Rewards: A genuine finishing stretch that decides career-mode rounds in the last three holes
What to Do in Quail Hollow Club
- Master MyCAREER major championships. Career play now runs through majors as well as regular tour stops, including the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, the 2025 U. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Driver. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Pick your archetype for the courses you actually want to play. Powerhouse struggles on Quail Hollow's tight corridors, while Greenskeeper struggles anywhere you cannot reach the green in regulation.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Course Designer and community courses for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- MyCAREER major championships mastered
- Driver acquired or in progress
- Quail Hollow Club fully cleared
- Ready for Royal Portrush Golf Club
Phase 4: Late Game (Royal Portrush Golf Club)
Host of The 153rd Open and the links test in the licensed set, where wind changes club selection more than yardage does. The par 3 16th, Calamity Corner, plays long across a ravine.
Level/Difficulty: Par 71, links conditions with heavy wind influence Key Rewards: The best course for learning to play low into wind rather than fighting it
What to Do in Royal Portrush Golf Club
- Finalize your build. You should be running Powerhouse or Technician with optimized gear.
- Driver should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Check the wind at the flag rather than at the tee. Elevation changes between tee and green on courses like Oakmont mean the wind you see standing over the ball is not the wind the ball will fly through.
- Societies and online play optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into The Old Course at St Andrews.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Driver upgraded to max
- Royal Portrush Golf Club fully cleared
- Ready for The Old Course at St Andrews
Phase 5: Endgame (The Old Course at St Andrews)
Added in Season 2 shortly after launch, with the Swilcan Bridge, the Road Hole 17th and the enormous Hell Bunker on the 14th. Wide fairways with shared greens make it look easy until the wind turns.
Level/Difficulty: Par 72, arrived post-launch in Season 2 Key Rewards: The most historically famous layout in the game and the friendliest links course to score on
What to Do in The Old Course at St Andrews
- The Old Course at St Andrews tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Learn one club's yardage precisely, ideally the 7-iron, then scale everything from it. Guessing every club separately is slower than knowing one reference number cold.
- The endgame loop: run The Old Course at St Andrews, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Sculptor for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where Societies and online play mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- The Old Course at St Andrews fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Blaming tempo for every bad shot when the EvoSwing readout is actually flagging Swing Path
- Choosing Powerhouse for the highlight-reel drives and then losing strokes on every greenside chip
- Firing at tucked pins on fast greens instead of playing to the fat side and taking two putts
- Reading wind from the tee box on elevation-change holes and coming up short every time
- Skipping putting practice and then wondering why career rounds sit three or four strokes above target
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Read which EvoSwing component failed rather than just seeing the shot go offline. Contact, Rhythm, Transition and Swing Path each break differently, and slowing your backswing does nothing for a path error.
- Spend your first hour on the putting green with tournament green speeds turned on. Putting is the largest single source of strokes gained in a career round, and the practice transfers to every course in the game.
- Pick your archetype for the courses you actually want to play. Powerhouse struggles on Quail Hollow's tight corridors, while Greenskeeper struggles anywhere you cannot reach the green in regulation.
- Check the wind at the flag rather than at the tee. Elevation changes between tee and green on courses like Oakmont mean the wind you see standing over the ball is not the wind the ball will fly through.
- Learn one club's yardage precisely, ideally the 7-iron, then scale everything from it. Guessing every club separately is slower than knowing one reference number cold.
