Respawn shipped the first Cal Kestis game on 15 November 2019, and it is a much narrower toolkit than the sequel. There are exactly two lightsaber configurations here, single and double-bladed, and three skill trees called Force, Lightsaber and Survival holding 33 skills between them. Difficulty does not pad enemy health: Story Mode, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master and Jedi Grand Master change the parry window and enemy aggression instead, so a boss has the same health bar on every setting. The route runs Bracca, Bogano, Zeffo, Kashyyyk, Dathomir, Ilum and finally Nur, and almost every chest you crack along the way holds a poncho or a lightsaber part rather than a stat.
This guide covers everything you need: core mechanics, the best characters, weapons worth investing in, location progression, and the tips that actually make a difference.
Core Mechanics
Parry window set by difficulty
The four settings are Story Mode, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master and Jedi Grand Master, and none of them touches enemy health pools. What changes is how many frames the parry window lasts, how much damage you take and how relentlessly enemies press. Jedi Grand Master shrinks the window to its minimum and pins aggression at maximum. You can change the setting from the pause menu at any point, so a wall on Dathomir does not have to end a run.
Force, Lightsaber and Survival trees
Cal earns skill points from combat, exploration and Force Echoes, then spends them across 33 skills in three trees. Force holds Force Attunement, Mass Push, Grasping Pull, Burst Slow and Howling Push. Lightsaber holds Overhead Slash, Dash Strike, Evasive Kick, Sprint Strike, Whirlwind Throw, Lightsaber Throw and Lightsaber Mastery. Survival holds Superior Blocking, Agile Deflection, Precision Evade, Improved Stims and Personalized Stims. Dying drops the experience you have not yet banked into a skill point, and landing one hit on the enemy that killed you gets it back.
Single and double-bladed configurations
The single blade parries cleanly and thrusts hard, which is what duels against Purge Troopers and the Second Sister reward. The double blade sweeps wide and spins blaster bolts back across an arc, which is what the Imperial Refinery on Kashyyyk and the Nightbrother packs on Dathomir demand. A workbench in Brother's Bastion on Dathomir grants the double-bladed part immediately after Bogano if you can survive the detour, and a second workbench in Bogano's Abandoned Workshop opens once BD-1 carries the Scomp Link.
BD-1 stim canisters
BD-1 starts with 2 stim canisters and 8 upgrades are hidden across the planets, taking the ceiling to 10. Each stim restores around half of Cal's health. The Improved Stims and Personalized Stims skills raise how much a stim heals and let it top up the Force meter too. Stim upgrades sit in yellow crates specifically. Green and black crates only carry ponchos, BD-1 skins, lightsaber parts and Mantis paint, so ignoring them costs you nothing in a fight.
Meditation circles and Force Essence
Meditation circles are the save points and the only place the skill menu opens. Choosing to rest refills stims and health but respawns every ordinary enemy in the zone, which is the trade that catches new players out. Force Essence pickups found in the world permanently raise either the health bar or the Force pool. Cal's psychometry triggers Force Echoes on objects he touches, which award experience toward the next skill point and fill in databank entries.

Weapons Guide
| Weapon | Why It Matters | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Single-bladed lightsaber | Cal's default configuration and the one with the tightest parry timing and the strongest single-target damage. | Duels against Purge Troopers, the Ninth Sister, Taron Malicos and the Second Sister |
| Double-bladed lightsaber | Wide sweeps and a spinning deflect that returns blaster bolts across an arc instead of at a single shooter. | Scout Trooper squads, Nightbrother packs on Dathomir, the Kashyyyk refinery corridors |
| Lightsaber Throw | A Lightsaber tree skill that sends the blade out and back for heavy damage at range. | Deleting ranged enemies before they set up, and staggering Security Droids |
| Force Push | Recovered in the Tomb of Eilram on Zeffo. | Ledge kills, guard breaks, and opening a fight against three or more enemies |
| Force Pull | Recovered in the Tomb of Miktrull on the second Zeffo visit. | Isolating a shielded trooper, pulling a sniper off a walkway, tomb puzzles |
Single-bladed lightsaber: Cal's default configuration and the one with the tightest parry timing and the strongest single-target damage. Overhead Slash and Dash Strike both live on this stance, and Sprint Strike lets you close a gap without spending Force.
Double-bladed lightsaber: Wide sweeps and a spinning deflect that returns blaster bolts across an arc instead of at a single shooter. Damage per hit is lower than the single blade, but the swing arc covers three enemies where the single blade covers one.
Lightsaber Throw: A Lightsaber tree skill that sends the blade out and back for heavy damage at range. Power Throw extends it, but both versions drain a large slice of the Force meter and leave Cal briefly unarmed.
Force Push: Recovered in the Tomb of Eilram on Zeffo. It knocks single enemies back, breaks guards and doubles as a traversal tool for the Zeffo tomb puzzles. Mass Push, unlocked by holding the input, catches a whole group at the cost of more Force.
Force Pull: Recovered in the Tomb of Miktrull on the second Zeffo visit. It yanks an enemy out of a formation, strips shields off shielded troopers and drags Zeffo tomb blocks into place. Grasping Pull upgrades it to catch heavier targets.

Location Progression
| Location | Level Range | Key Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Bogano | Opening hours, 0 to 4 skill points | Scomp Link route, Abandoned Workshop workbench, first stim upgrade, Oggdo Bogdo |
| Zeffo | Early to mid game, across two separate visits | Force Push, Force Pull, Scomp Link, Powered Zipline, Slice: Probe Droid |
| Kashyyyk | Mid game, after both Zeffo Force powers | Overcharge, Slice: Security Droid, Jedi Flip, Underwater Breather, the Ninth Sister |
| Dathomir | Reachable straight after Bogano, intended for the late mid game | Double-bladed part, Climbing Claws from Gorgara, Nydak Alpha, Taron Malicos, Merrin |
| Nur | Endgame, after Ilum rebuilds the lightsaber | Final Second Sister duel, the Fortress Inquisitorius sequence, the campaign ending |
Bogano: The quiet second stop and the closest thing Fallen Order has to a hub. The Vault sits at its centre, Oggdo Bogdo squats in a cave near the start, and the Abandoned Workshop holds a workbench that grants the double-bladed part once BD-1 has the Scomp Link.
Zeffo: Two visits, two tombs. The Tomb of Eilram returns Force Push on the first trip and the Tomb of Miktrull returns Force Pull on the second. The Weathered Monument hides the Scomp Link workbench, the Imperial Dig Site holds the Powered Zipline, and an AT-ST fight and the Rabid Jotaz both live here.
Kashyyyk: The Shadowlands and the Origin Tree. Overcharge is in the Forest Trench on the first visit, Slice: Security Droid sits past the freed Wookiees in the Imperial Refinery, the Jedi Flip double jump comes while climbing the Origin Tree, and Mari Kosan hands over the Underwater Breather after you find Tarfful.
Dathomir: The hardest planet to arrive at early and the most rewarding. Brother's Bastion holds the workbench that grants the double-bladed part, Gorgara drops the Climbing Claws, and Taron Malicos waits at the end. This is also where Cal's kyber crystal shatters, sending the Mantis to Ilum.
Nur: The moon holding the Fortress Inquisitorius, and the last area of the campaign. It is a linear stealth-into-assault sequence rather than an explorable planet, and it closes out the Second Sister arc that started in the Bracca prologue.

Tips That Actually Matter
- Change difficulty whenever you like. Because the four settings only alter the parry window, damage taken and enemy aggression, dropping from Jedi Grand Master to Jedi Master for one boss does not weaken that boss's health bar at all.
- Spend your first six or seven skill points in Survival. Superior Blocking and the first health tier keep you alive through Zeffo, and Precision Evade returning Force is worth more than any early Lightsaber skill.
- Chase the 8 stim canister upgrades in yellow crates. Going from 2 stims to 10 is the single largest survivability change in the game and none of it costs a skill point.
- Do the Dathomir detour after Bogano if you have the patience. The workbench in Brother's Bastion grants the double-bladed configuration hours before the story intends, and the whole Zeffo and Kashyyyk stretch gets easier.
- Force Push singles off ledges. Kashyyyk's walkways, Zeffo's cliffs and Dathomir's ravines all kill enemies outright for one Force segment, which is cheaper than any combo.
- Refill the Force meter by hitting things with the lightsaber. Force does not regenerate on its own in Fallen Order, so a Force-heavy build still needs to stay in melee between casts.
- Do not rest at a meditation circle out of habit. Resting respawns every ordinary enemy in the zone, so if you are already at full health you have just rebuilt the corridor you cleared.
- Get the hit back after you die. Unbanked experience sits on the enemy that killed you and one connecting strike returns all of it, so re-approach carefully rather than rushing to avenge yourself.
- Use Force Pull on shielded troopers. Pulling the shield away opens the trooper for two free hits, which is faster than trying to break the guard with normal swings.
- Ignore green and black crates if you are short on time. They only ever hold ponchos, BD-1 skins, lightsaber parts and Mantis paint, so nothing in them changes a fight.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Treating Fallen Order like a hack and slash. Blocking without parrying drains the stamina bar and a broken guard means a free heavy hit, so the whole combat system rewards waiting.
- Buying Lightsaber Throw before Force Attunement. The throw costs a large chunk of the meter, and on a small Force pool you get one cast per fight before the skill is useless.
- Skipping the double-bladed configuration entirely. Players who stay on the single blade all game hit a wall in the Kashyyyk refinery and the Dathomir Nightbrother packs, where blaster bolts arrive from three directions at once.
- Sprinting into unscouted rooms. Fallen Order regularly places two Purge Troopers or a Jotaz just past a corner, and the run-in gives them the opening hit on a difficulty where the opening hit matters.
- Farming meditation circles for experience. Enemies do respawn, but the experience per kill is low and the risk of losing an unbanked skill point is high, so exploring for Force Essence and Force Echoes pays far better.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Fallen Order different from Jedi: Survivor?
Fallen Order is the 2019 original and gives Cal two lightsaber configurations, single and double-bladed, against Survivor's five stances. There are no perk slots, no settlement hub and no Rumors board. The planets are different too: Bogano, Zeffo, Kashyyyk, Dathomir, Ilum and Nur, with Bracca as the prologue, none of which appear as explorable areas in the sequel.
When do I get the double-bladed lightsaber?
The intended route hands it over well into the campaign, but you do not have to wait. A workbench at Brother's Bastion on Dathomir grants the part as soon as you can reach it, which is straight after Bogano if you can survive Nightbrothers at low power. A second workbench in Bogano's Abandoned Workshop grants it once BD-1 carries the Scomp Link from Zeffo.
Which difficulty should I pick?
Jedi Knight for a first run. Difficulty here changes the parry window, incoming damage and enemy aggression, not enemy health, so Jedi Grand Master is a pure timing test rather than a longer fight. You can switch at any time from the pause menu, so there is no reason to lock yourself into a setting at the start.
Are the chests worth opening?
Only the yellow ones matter mechanically. Yellow crates hold the 8 stim canister upgrades that take BD-1 from 2 stims to 10. Green and black crates hold ponchos, BD-1 skins, lightsaber hilt parts and Mantis paint, which change nothing about combat. Force Essence pickups, which permanently raise health or the Force pool, are separate from all of them.
Where do Force Push and Force Pull come back?
Force Push is recovered inside the Tomb of Eilram during the first Zeffo visit, and Force Pull is recovered inside the Tomb of Miktrull on the second Zeffo visit. Both are story-gated, so you cannot skip ahead to them. The Scomp Link comes from the Weathered Monument on Zeffo after Force Push, and the Powered Zipline from the Imperial Dig Site on the return trip.
