Breakpoint moved the series from Bolivia to Auroa in October 2019, and the Steam listing under app 2231380 arrived after that original launch with the full run of title updates already applied. Auroa is Jace Skell's private archipelago, the drones his company built now answer to Cole D. Walker and his Wolves, and Nomad starts the game alone after the convoy carrying his team is shot down. The safe ground is Erewhon, a hidden settlement under Twin Falls Mountain in the Mount Hodgson province, run by ex-Marine Mads Schulz and his wife Maria.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (Mount Hodgson)
The mountain province that holds Twin Falls Mountain and, hidden beneath it, Erewhon. This is the base of operations for the whole campaign: Maria Schulz runs the shop, Mads Schulz leads the Homesteaders, and Sergeant Major Josiah Hill hands out the early objectives.
Level/Difficulty: Opening hours, safe at any gear score Key Rewards: Erewhon vendors and faction missions, class unlocks and respec, the bivouac network, and the first Skell Credits sinks
What to Do in Mount Hodgson
- Learn Gear score and five gear tiers. Every weapon and armour piece carries a gear score and a colour tier: Standard grey, Improved green, Advanced blue, High-End purple and Elite gold. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Panther as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
- Prone camouflage is the most important survival tool in the game and it is not automatic. Going prone in mud, sand or long grass applies a visible camouflage layer that defeats most drone sweeps and delays Wolves detection long enough for a patrol to walk past.
- Acquire your first weapons upgrade: MK17 or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand Gear score and five gear tiers fundamentals
- Panther selected and functional
- Mount Hodgson main content cleared
- Ready for Smuggler Coves
Phase 2: Early Game (Smuggler Coves)
Mountainous and heavily wooded country at the northern end of the main island. The tree cover makes it the friendliest province for learning prone camouflage against Azrael sweeps, because there is almost always something to lie under.
Level/Difficulty: Early campaign, gear score under 60 is workable Key Rewards: Weapon blueprints in coastal outposts, early Skell Tech sites, and several bivouac locations that shorten later approaches
What to Do in Smuggler Coves
- Work on Bivouacs, injuries and stamina. Bivouacs are the campfires of Auroa. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for MK17 if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Bivouacs apply timed buffs as well as healing, and the buff you choose should match the next objective. A stamina buff before a mountain approach and a weapon handling buff before a Behemoth arena are worth more than the default pick.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Fen Bog.
- Consider whether Assault might suit your playstyle better than Panther.
Phase 2 Checklist
- Bivouacs, injuries and stamina integrated into gameplay
- MK17 acquired
- Smuggler Coves fully cleared
- Ready for Fen Bog
Phase 3: Mid Game (Fen Bog)
A large eastern region cut apart by rivers and channels, with limited hard cover and very open sight lines across the water. Vehicles struggle here and boats do not, which changes how you approach every objective on its islands.
Level/Difficulty: Mid campaign, gear score roughly 60 to 120 Key Rewards: Faction mission chains, weapon blueprints in the marsh outposts, and several Wolves patrol routes worth ambushing for gear
What to Do in Fen Bog
- Master Wolves, Sentinel and drone patrols. Sentinel are the contractors garrisoning Skell facilities. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward 416. It's the best weapon and becomes accessible around now.
- Behemoth drones guard communication relays and cannot be beaten with rifles alone. Bring EMP grenades to disable the drone briefly, rockets for the exposed weak points, and use the arena's cover pillars rather than trying to outrun it in the open.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Classes with techniques and class items for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- Wolves, Sentinel and drone patrols mastered
- 416 acquired or in progress
- Fen Bog fully cleared
- Ready for Sinking Country
Phase 4: Late Game (Sinking Country)
A salt marsh with mangroves at its centre and the Coal Islands off its eastern edge. The mud here is genuinely useful: prone camouflage works well, and the Cold War Airfield inside the region holds one of the more sought after blueprints.
Level/Difficulty: Mid to late campaign, gear score roughly 100 to 180 Key Rewards: Silver Stake Tactical blueprint at the Cold War Airfield, Behemoth-guarded relays, and high tier Sentinel loot
What to Do in Sinking Country
- Finalize your build. You should be running Assault or Panther with optimized gear.
- 416 should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- The Azrael drone is the reason open-ground travel gets you killed. When one passes overhead, stop, go prone in cover and wait; if it tags you it will call a Wolf patrol with Murmur support that arrives faster than you can drive away.
- The Ghost Experience settings optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Windy Islands.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- 416 upgraded to max
- Sinking Country fully cleared
- Ready for Windy Islands
Phase 5: Endgame (Windy Islands)
A chain of fjord islands south of the Seal Islands and south-west of Liberty, with South Cape Station as the only human settlement. Exposed ground, hard wind, very little cover, and consequently one of the least forgiving approaches on the map.
Level/Difficulty: Late campaign, gear score 150 and above Key Rewards: MK17 blueprint, high tier gear drops, and access routes toward the Liberty region objectives
What to Do in Windy Islands
- Windy Islands tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Gear score is an average of equipped items, so a single low score piece drags the whole number down. Swapping a low tier item for a higher score one of a worse colour is almost always the right call while you are climbing.
- The endgame loop: run Windy Islands, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Echelon for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where The Ghost Experience settings mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Windy Islands fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Chasing purple and gold items instead of the gear score number. Colour tier controls perks, not power band, and an Elite gold item 40 points below your average is actively slowing your progression.
- Treating Auroa like Bolivia. The Wolves flank, the Azrael watches from above and the drones do not lose interest, so the loud approaches that worked in Wildlands get punished here far faster.
- Ignoring the bivouac system because it looks like fast travel. Fatigue and injuries carry between engagements, and a player who never rests fights the second half of every session at a real disadvantage.
- Attacking Behemoth arenas with a rifle build. They exist to force you to carry EMP grenades and rockets, and without them the fight is unwinnable regardless of how good your aim is.
- Sticking with one class the whole game. Class changes are free at bivouacs, and the Panther approach into a base followed by an Assault clear inside it is a better plan than committing to either for the whole mission.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
