Four civilised races ship as standard: Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Orcs. Update 0.50 Monolith Awakens added new sapient civilisations on top of those, including Ribbits and Coolbeaks, which emerge when a Monolith rewrites the genes of frogs and penguins.

Q: How do I stop disasters from destroying my world?

Open World Laws and look at the very bottom right, where Natural Disasters and Other Disasters sit as separate toggles. Switching both off stops tornadoes, earthquakes and volcanoes from spawning on their own, and leaves destruction entirely in your hands.

Q: What does the Monolith actually do?

It rewrites genes and species traits in the area around it, and it can grant consciousness to creatures that had none. That is the mechanism behind the new civilisations in 0.50, so a Monolith placed next to a group of penguins on Permafrost can produce a Coolbeak settlement.

Q: Is there a way to win WorldBox?

No. There is no win state, no score and no ending. The 37 powers in the destruction tab and the 16 world types in the generator exist to let you set up a situation and watch it play out, which is why most players set themselves a goal such as one race surviving on an islands map.

Q: How do I make ground permanently unusable?

Convert it to Wasteland Biome, either by bombing the area with atomic bombs or by holding an Acid Cloud over it. Nothing grows on Wasteland and no civilisation will settle it, so it is the only truly permanent change you can make to a map short of turning it into ocean.

Maxim Karpenko's pixel god game hands you a blank map, 37 destruction powers and no objective whatsoever. Four civilised races (Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Orcs) found cities, group into kingdoms and declare wars on their own while you either help them or drop a meteorite on them. Update 0.50 Monolith Awakens, which opened its Steam beta on 1 April 2025, added Ribbits and Coolbeaks as new sapient civilisations plus per species cultures, languages and religions. The map generator can produce 16 different world types, so the only thing a run has in common with the last one is the physics.

Grass Biome Bosses

Strategy

The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. The World Laws panel changes the rules rather than the terrain, and the two toggles at the bottom right control Natural Disasters and Other Disasters. This is your primary tool here.

Use World laws that rewrite the simulation to create safe windows.
Meteorite is enough to handle everything here.

Savanna Bosses

Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Best opening biome for a race you want to win Recommended build: Elves with Meteorite

Strategy

Early game bosses test your understanding of Kingdoms, clans and war declarations. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.

Key tips:

Kingdoms, clans and war declarations is critical for these fights.
Farm Meteorite upgrades if you're struggling.
Consider switching to Elves if your current setup isn't working.

Permafrost Bosses

Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Hostile to any race except Coolbeaks Recommended build: Humans with Tornado

Strategy

Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.

You need both World laws that rewrite the simulation and Traits, genes and monolith mutations mastery.
