Maxim Karpenko's pixel god game hands you a blank map, 37 destruction powers and no objective whatsoever. Four civilised races (Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Orcs) found cities, group into kingdoms and declare wars on their own while you either help them or drop a meteorite on them. Update 0.50 Monolith Awakens, which opened its Steam beta on 1 April 2025, added Ribbits and Coolbeaks as new sapient civilisations plus per species cultures, languages and religions. The map generator can produce 16 different world types, so the only thing a run has in common with the last one is the physics.

Core Combat Mechanics
1. World laws that rewrite the simulation
The World Laws panel changes the rules rather than the terrain, and the two toggles at the bottom right control Natural Disasters and Other Disasters. Switch both off and a world can run for hours without a single tornado; switch them on and the map starts culling civilisations without you touching anything.
Why it matters: This is the foundation of all combat. Everything else builds on this.
2. Kingdoms, clans and war declarations
Cities gather into kingdoms, kingdoms contain clans and families, and wars start on their own once two borders touch. Killing one ruler with a single Lightning strike can split a kingdom into three rival successor states inside a minute of game time.
Why it matters: The most underrated mechanic. Players who master this early have a massive advantage.
3. Traits, genes and monolith mutations
Units carry traits you paint on with a brush, from Fast and Tough through to Immortal, and those traits pass down the family line. The Monoliths added in 0.50 rewrite genes and species traits directly, which is the route by which a plain animal such as a frog becomes the Ribbit civilisation.
Why it matters: Unlocks a new layer of gameplay depth once understood.
4. Cultures, languages and religions
Every sapient species carries its own clan, culture, language and religion traits, and some species happily share a city while others refuse. The Onomastics tab inside a culture sets naming templates for units, families, clans and cities, so two Human kingdoms end up sounding nothing alike.
Why it matters: The tactical edge that separates average players from advanced ones.
5. Terraforming and biome painting
Each biome is a brush. Painting Permafrost over Savanna kills the cows and brings in Snowmen and White Walkers, and hitting a region with enough acid or atomic bombs converts it to Wasteland Biome, which no farmer will touch again until you repaint it.
Why it matters: The endgame optimization mechanic. Small improvements here compound into massive gains.

This is why the tier list favors builds that leverage both.
Terraforming and biome painting as a Multiplier
Each biome is a brush. Painting Permafrost over Savanna kills the cows and brings in Snowmen and White Walkers, and hitting a region with enough acid or atomic bombs converts it to Wasteland Biome, which no farmer will touch again until you repaint it. This system amplifies everything else. The better your Terraforming and biome painting optimization, the more your other mechanics pay off.

- Phase awareness: Most bosses change behavior at health thresholds

Common Combat Mistakes
- Button mashing: Committed attacks have recovery frames. Mashing locks you into animations.
- Ignoring Kingdoms, clans and war declarations: This mechanic exists for a reason. Players who use it take significantly less damage.
- Wrong equipment for the situation: Check our weapons guide for situational picks.
- Not learning from deaths: Every death teaches something. If you don't know why you died, you'll die the same way again.
- Overcommitting: Trading hits works in Grass Biome but will get you killed in Wasteland Biome.
