Maxim Karpenko's pixel god game hands you a blank map, 37 destruction powers and no objective whatsoever. Four civilised races (Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Orcs) found cities, group into kingdoms and declare wars on their own while you either help them or drop a meteorite on them. Update 0.50 Monolith Awakens, which opened its Steam beta on 1 April 2025, added Ribbits and Coolbeaks as new sapient civilisations plus per species cultures, languages and religions. The map generator can produce 16 different world types, so the only thing a run has in common with the last one is the physics.

Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.

S-Tier: Tornado

A tornado wanders the map on its own path once dropped, clearing water and grass in a circle around itself and flinging any unit it touches. It also spawns naturally whenever the Natural Disasters world law is enabled, which is the usual reason a peaceful world suddenly loses a city.

Recommended BuildHumans

How to get it: Available from mid-game onward. See our walkthrough for the exact progression point.

Best builds using Tornado: Pairs naturally with Humans thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.

A-Tier: Meteorite

A small rock from space that lands where you click. A direct hit on a village kills essentially everyone standing in it, and the crater it leaves changes the local biome, so the survivors often abandon the site rather than rebuild.

Best builds using Meteorite: Pairs naturally with Elves thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.

A-Tier: Acid Cloud

Rains acid over an area, killing units slowly rather than instantly and converting the tiles underneath toward Wasteland Biome. Sustained acid over farmland is one of the two reliable ways to make ground permanently useless, the other being atomic bombs.

B-Tier: Lightning

A single strike from the sky that kills one target and sets fire to whatever it lands on. Because it is precise, it is the tool for political assassination: kill a ruler and the kingdom panel usually shows a succession split within seconds.

TierB
Best ForRemoving a named ruler to trigger a kingdom split
Key MechanicCultures, languages and religions
Recommended BuildOrcs

How to get it: Found in later areas. Our walkthrough covers when you can access this.

Best builds using Lightning: Pairs naturally with Orcs thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.

B-Tier: Napalm Bomb

Blanket fire over a wide radius, and the fire keeps spreading through forest long after the bomb itself is done. Used near Jungle it will take out far more than you aimed at, which makes it the least controllable option in the destruction tab.

TierB
Best ForClearing dense forest and any civilisation unlucky enough to be inside it
Key MechanicTerraforming and biome painting
Recommended BuildRibbits

Equipment Progression Path

The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:

  1. Starting gear → Enough to clear Grass Biome
  2. Meteorite → Your first real upgrade, available early
  3. Acid Cloud → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
  4. Tornado → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
  5. Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous

Equipment Tips

  • Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
  • Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
  • Save the world file before every experiment. There is no undo button, and a Meteorite dropped on the wrong capital ends four hours of growth in one click.
  • Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
