Farm Together 2 left Early Access on 30 May 2025, a little over a year after Milkstone Studios opened it on 7 May 2024. It keeps the first game's real time clock, so crops keep growing while the game is closed and a full in-game season passes in roughly 17 minutes. There is no combat and no fail state; the entire game is one levelling curve where Farm Level gates every seed, animal and building you can buy.
These tips go beyond the basics. They're the strategies experienced players use to play more efficiently, the hidden mechanics most people miss, and the optimizations that compound over a full playthrough. If you're just starting, check our beginner's guide first.
Essential Tips
1. Buy the Garage the moment you hit Farm Level 2
Buy the Garage the moment you hit Farm Level 2. The tractor changes how every later decision plays out, and a farm laid out before you own one usually needs replanting to line up with the 3x3 work area.
2. Plant in blocks of one species and put a sign on each block
Plant in blocks of one species and put a sign on each block. Quests ask for specific goods, and hunting for four scattered pumpkins across a 39,200 tile farm is how sessions get wasted.
3. Flowers are the experience crop
Flowers are the experience crop. Flower beds keep producing after planting, so a large flower area you only water and harvest levels the farm faster than rotating vegetables does.
4. Water flowers only when you want coins
Water flowers only when you want coins. Watering roughly doubles the money from a flower harvest but leaves the experience unchanged, so a pure levelling pass can skip watering entirely and go twice as fast.
5. Keep individual fish ponds small
Keep individual fish ponds small. Yield per tile falls once a pond passes roughly 36 tiles, and a very large pond returns around half the per tile yield, so several modest ponds beat one lake.
6. Treat diamonds, not coins, as the real currency
Treat diamonds, not coins, as the real currency. Coins pile up on their own; diamonds gate expansion and terraforming and mostly come from town stalls, so upgrading stall capacity pays better than another crop field.
7. Avoid the bank as a routine converter
Avoid the bank as a routine converter. At roughly 2,000 gold per diamond and 250,000 gold per medal it exists for emergencies, not for income.
8. Run long quests from the quest board when you can
Run long quests from the quest board when you can. Community reports put long duration quests at 20 medals, doubling to 40 once your farm passes level 50, which is a real step change in medal income.
9. Trees need no watering and bear seasonally, so plant them before a break rather than before an active session
Trees need no watering and bear seasonally, so plant them before a break rather than before an active session. Crops reward attention; trees reward absence.
10. Sprinklers are worth building before decorations
Sprinklers are worth building before decorations. Watering cuts growth time by a large margin, so covering a big field with sprinklers raises harvests per hour more than adding more tiles does.
Advanced Strategies
Build Optimization
The difference between an average build and an optimized one is massive. See our builds guide for full breakdowns.
For Crops (A-Tier):
- Focus on Real time growth with offline progress combinations for maximum output.
- Core gear: The tractor
- Stat priority: Offensive stats first
For Trees (A-Tier):
- Versatile approach that handles any situation.
- Core gear: Sprinklers
- Stat priority: Balanced stats
Mechanic Interactions
Understanding how Farm Together 2's systems interact is where the real optimization lives. Our combat guide covers this in detail.
Real time growth with offline progress + Three currencies: coins, diamonds and medals: Crops, trees and ponds advance on the wall clock rather than on turns, and progress continues while the game is shut. Combined with Three currencies: coins, diamonds and medals, coins come from harvesting and selling.
Farm Level gates every unlock + Tractor automation from the Garage: Almost nothing is bought with money alone. When paired with Tractor automation from the Garage, the garage unlocks at farm level 2 and gives you a tractor that works a 3x3 block at a time, plus an automatic mode.
Terraforming and plot expansion scaling: The Terraforming Agency opens at Farm Level 30 and lets you reshape terrain for diamonds. Full expansion to the 7x7 grid of 49 plots is a long game project measured in millions of diamonds, not thousands.
Equipment Efficiency
| Equipment | Best Use Case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The tractor | Any farm larger than a few plots, and the reason to lay everything out in 3x3 blocks | Unlocked by buying the Garage at Farm Level 2. |
| Sprinklers | Large crop and flower fields where manual watering would eat the whole session | Automatic watering that removes the most repetitive job in the game. |
| Animal feeders | Keeping pens productive across offline stretches | Feeders hold a stock of fodder and dispense it over time, which extends how long animals stay fed without your attention. |
| Town stalls and shops | Turning a full Warehouse into expansion money | The conversion layer between harvested goods and diamonds. |
| The bank exchange | Topping up the last few diamonds or medals for a purchase you are close to affording | A fallback converter at deliberately unfavourable rates, roughly 2,000 gold for a diamond, 250,000 gold for a medal, or 125 diamonds for a medal. |
Location Efficiency
Your farm plots (Farm Level 1 to the high levels; full expansion is a very long project): The grid you actually build on. It grows from a single starting plot toward a 7x7 arrangement of 49 plots, roughly 39,200 tiles at full size.
The town (First stalls from Farm Level 2 onward): Where stalls and specialty buildings live. Stall size and count scale with Farm Level, and this is the diamond faucet the rest of the game depends on.
The bank (Varies): Worth clearing fully for the rewards.
Ponds (Salmon opens at Farm Level 6, Emerald Swordfish around 48): Fish areas you dig on your own land. They harvest on a seasonal cycle with no feeding, but per tile yield falls off in large ponds.
Your house interior (Available early, expanded by later purchases): A decoratable indoor space with its own jobs. House jobs feed the ticket economy that pays farmhands, so it is not purely cosmetic.
Mistakes Even Veterans Make
- Laying out fields in odd shapes that the 3x3 tractor sweep cannot cover cleanly.
- Digging one huge pond and losing roughly half the per tile fish yield to the size penalty.
- Grinding coins while ignoring diamonds, then being unable to buy the next plot.
- Mixing crop species across a single field, which turns every quest into a search.
- Buying decorations before the Garage, the Warehouse and stall upgrades.
Pro Quick Tips
- Buy the Garage the moment you hit Farm Level 2. The tractor changes how every later decision plays out, and a farm laid out before you own one usually needs replanting to line up with the 3x3 work area.
- Plant in blocks of one species and put a sign on each block. Quests ask for specific goods, and hunting for four scattered pumpkins across a 39,200 tile farm is how sessions get wasted.
- Flowers are the experience crop. Flower beds keep producing after planting, so a large flower area you only water and harvest levels the farm faster than rotating vegetables does.
- Start with Trees, switch to Crops when ready
- Invest in The tractor above everything else
- Clear areas in order: Your farm plots → The town → The bank → Ponds → Your house interior. See our maps guide
- Real time growth with offline progress + Three currencies: coins, diamonds and medals together are stronger than either alone
